Bloody cheek. Wouldn't be surprised if someone buys it though. People seem to lose all sense on ebay.

katzg · 13/01/2006 22:59

its crazy! unless there charging the difference for building it!

socci the questions only appear if the seller chooses to have the questions published on his listing.

jinglybits · 14/01/2006 00:37

shocking! but ebay is like that, you have to be savvy and do your research! people make opportunist money out of selling ikea etc because some people can't get to the store. mind you, if people are lazy enough not to do a bit of price research then they can't complain

katzg · 14/01/2006 08:09

its also the fact that s/he calls it designer! when its an argos cheapy!

I have seen Harry potter CDs going for more than they cost new on Amazon. Some people don't seem to do much research on ebay

SoupDragon · 14/01/2006 09:14

There's this one too which is remarkably similar to this one on Argos

Seashells · 14/01/2006 09:20

That guy seems to just have listed the entire argos catalogue! I suspect he intends to buy the stuff if/when it sells on ebay, hope it's out of stock lol.

NomDePlume · 14/01/2006 09:22

Yes, it's a rip off, but ebay has always been 'buyer beware'. Good luck to the guy if he can sell it for £100. It's not illegal (immoral maybe). Unfortunately people think ebay and think 'bargain' so they bid without doing any research on the RRP of the item. Or they carried away with bidding and spend more than they should have, but that's their lookout I'm afraid.

Freckle · 14/01/2006 09:26

Perhaps someone needs to tip Argos the wink as he appears to be copying their photographs. Copyright?

munz · 14/01/2006 09:27

he's using their pics as well - what a cheek!

CatBert · 14/01/2006 09:36

I think there deffo would be copyright on the photos...

Aloha · 14/01/2006 09:39

tbh I think to do that would really be the sign of not having quite enough to do (she says, posting on MN when the kitchen looks like a health hazard).

zephyrcat · 14/01/2006 09:47

I used a photo from a website once and got told off straight away so hopefully they will too!!

It's mad that they can do it though. I once saw a pair of jeans from Next that I had just bought for ds from the shop for about 8.00 and saw the same pair on ebay for about 15.00!!

bubblerock · 14/01/2006 11:06

I was watching this thread with interest last night. A seller selling a box and trying to scam people - they got him in the end though

jinglybits · 14/01/2006 12:00

good lord!! 132 pounds for a box! and did you see the negative feedback he left the poor woman! 'waster' shocking!

Legacy · 14/01/2006 12:20

I know it seems a bit of a cheek, but I don't really understand why you're all getting so hot under the collar about it?

Aside from any copyright infingement of using the same photos (which would be wrong if they ARE Argos's) this is not illegal, and I would question why some of you think this is a rip off or immoral??

This is how 'markets' (of any kind) work - based on what a seller is willing to sell an item for, and a buyer is willing to pay. Mostly items do not have a 'single fixed price' or indeed an exact 'value'. There's an old adage, "price is what you pay, value is what you get".

So what if, for example, someone who doesn't live near, or visit an Argos, sees this on eBay, buys it for £100, has it delivered and then loves it, and feels that s/he has had good value out of the purchase - what's wrong with that? To some extent the fact that it is available from Argos for £30 cheaper is irrelevant.

Another thought - perhaps this guy ISN'T buying from Argos and selling on? Perhaps he is just buying from the same manufacturer or wholesaler, and the reason the pictures are the same is because they are provided by the manufacturer/supplier (it's quite common).

This is what makes Ebay work - everyone's willingness to decide for themselves what value (and therefore maximum bid) they are willing to attach to something they want. (In economic terms, it's what's called a 'perfect market' )

Take the example of the next jeans for £15 when for sale in shop for £8... the 'cost' to an individual to buy them at that price might be greater than £15..

Jeans cost: £8
Petrol & parkign to get to shop: £3
Time spent - 1 hour - nominal value: £5

I know there ARE real scams on eBAy, where sellers try to trick or deceive buyers, but I really don't think you can argue this is one...

SoupDragon · 14/01/2006 15:21

Calling the desks "designer" when they are from Argos is certainly misleading. And as has been said, lifting the pictures and the description direct from the site is probably infringing copyright.

SoupDragon · 14/01/2006 15:23

The mobile phone box one is also illegal and misleading because in the item specifics it says under features "Bluetooth, Colour Screen, Customisable Cover, Email / Web, GPRS, GPS, I-mode enabled, IRDA, Infrared, Java enabled, MMS enabled, MP3 Player, Polyphonic ringtones, USB, Vibration " which clearly the box does not have.

helsi · 14/01/2006 15:24

I have asked the seller the question! hidden my email address though!

helsi · 15/01/2006 21:28

check out the answer I got.
