At the end of december I brought a ready bed from an ebay shop. It was new, and I paid £10.99 for the bed plus about £7.50 postage.

Anyway, the bed eventually came yesterday, and there were stains on the the cover of it.

I emailed the seller telling him this and he emailed back saying I could have a refund or another bed.
I emailed back saying I would have a refund as I also found the bed hard to inflate. I asked him to supply his adress for me to return the bed too.
I also said I would leave positive feedback as I was more than satisfied with his response.

He has just emaild me back and it says ...

PLEASE DISPOSE WITH THE ITEM AS IT WILL COST ME EVEN MORE TO REFUND YOU THE POSTAGE TO SEND IT BACK.I WILL REFUND YOU VIA PAYPAL MONDAY.PLEASE REMIND ME IF I DONT AS MY MEMORY IS NOT THE BEST.REGARDING FEEDBACK I WILL LEAVE YOU POSITIVE IF YOU DO LIKEWISE.
THANKS

So am I reading it right, he wants me to get rid of the bed then ??

I wasn't actually going to ask him to refund me the return postage, i thought i had to pay it.

Sounds like it! You could always sell it on eBay of course.........

purpleturtle · 13/01/2006 17:49

Yep. I guess he reckons if you're not happy he won't be able to sell it to anyone else either.

purpleturtle · 13/01/2006 17:49

that was my thought Lucycat!

choccywoccydoodaa · 13/01/2006 17:50

Perhaps wait for the refund then dispose of it - just in case! Call me cynical....

Whizzz · 13/01/2006 17:50

Yes sounds like its too much money/trouble for him to accept it back. I read it as 'keep the bed and I'll send you your momey back !'

nutcracker · 13/01/2006 17:52

Th thing is, th bed isn't un-useable, it just has a few marks on the front, which I wouldn't xpect from a new item.

Chucking it out would be wasteful, but keeping it will make me feel bad.

I feel like i am being awful though, he is losing out.

Its his choice - if he wants to give your money back and leave you with the bed then go for it. If you don't want it, then I'd go with selling it on again (mentioning stains of course).

MarsOnLife · 13/01/2006 17:56

don't be daft nutty.

He said to dispose of the bed cos it would cost him too much to get it back.

So...... either throw the thing out or keep it, just make sure that you get your refund.

Lucycat · 13/01/2006 17:57

He shouldn't have sold you something described as new when it has marks on it then!

You could always give it to a charity, or try to find someone who really needs one!

Personally though I'd just sell it!

nutcracker · 13/01/2006 17:59

Just told my mom and she said to keep it until he refunds the money and then if he does we can wash the sleeping bag part and if it comes up ok then keep it.

I still feel bad though.

Nutty I had this once with a power seller, she was lovely when I emailed telling her the item she sent was not as described, she told me to keep it, and refunded me my money at the same time......

nutcracker · 13/01/2006 18:06

Ok. I will email him back to check that is what he meant and if so I will keep it.

If i say i was going to tell him to refund only half you will all shout won't you ?

OP posts:
nutcracker · 13/01/2006 18:07

Could he not sell it as marked though ??

Have you got your money back yet nutty? - just nosey!

Suze2 · 16/01/2006 17:09

I had this from the 'Lakeland' company the other day - wanted to return a couple of things and was told to donate them to charity instead, plus got my full refund!!
