anyone know about Czech moles?

I have recently seen some fantastic children's cartoons about a mole, he pootles about getting into little adventures that tend to be a bit surreal (eg he listens to all the different sounds the birds make, catches all the different coloured notes that are flying around, goes and mixes them together in a mixing bowl, rolls them out with a rolling pin - all the colours mix and it makes lovely music. ) It comes from the Czech Republic but it seems very familiar as if I saw it as a kid. Does it ring any bells with anyone? there's no speaking in it - just music and the odd squeak.

Yes, I vaguely remember this one from my childhood. We happen to have an internet friend in CZ with whom we exchange DVDs, and I had only just the other day asked about the mole, wondering if it's available on DVD - apparently it is! It is called 'Krtek'.

We have recently discovered another czech animation, which, we are told, has cult following over there - it's called Pat & Mat and it's about a couple of guys who live in a communist era block of flats, creating havoc and diy disasters. It really is hilarious - my 5 year old really loves it.

I just found it on wikipedia - how do you pronounce "krtek?! do you think it was on tv in the uk ever? I've got quite a collection of dvds now and I really like it - and so do dds (5 and 3). It's one of the few things that I think is utterly innocent and charming and yet still entertains them.

Well, I remember it being on British TV in seventies, although I can't actually remember it properly at all. It just popped into my head when discussing kids DVDs.

I believe you need to roll your 'r' to be able to pronounce it.
