Shades of chocolate/coffee. Burnt oranges and other earthy natural colours. Natural colours in general (greens with cream/pale coffee maybe golds/ochre yellows). Probably not harsh bright colours other than in accents/accessories.

SofiaAmes · 09/11/2003 19:51

white, white, white.

lucy123 · 09/11/2003 19:55

crimson? dark green? need a big room for that though.

hoxtonchick · 09/11/2003 19:57

I agree with Sofia! We've got dark brown leather sofas & off-white walls, but they're so subtlely off-white they just look white. And nice bright Turkish rugs on the floor for some colour. Looks great (though I'm biased)...

popsycal · 09/11/2003 19:59

of white is definitely it
fushia for a few accessories - cushion or two
also for cushion - varied textures look good - knitted, suede-look etc - beiges, creams etc
am so jealous
wish i had brown leather sofas

hoxtonchick · 09/11/2003 20:07

we had bright pink suede cushion initially, which looked great to begin with, but i have no idea how to clean them so they've been relegated do ds's room now. have now got brown ikea velvet ones which are exactly the same colour. and machine washable, more importantly.

hoxtonchick

what colour curtains or windows dressing have you got??????????

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 09/11/2003 21:16

cream curtains. we've got them because my mum made them for our old flat, they fit the window & i thought it was a bit ungrateful to get rid of them.... they look ok though.

what do you think you're going to go for?

sickbucket · 09/11/2003 21:24

still not sure dh likes the idea of white / cream walls but can't decide on the curtains - want something warm as it's quite a big room.

Was ,B4 DD, a furniture buyer for big dept store and often worked as consulatnt for photo shoots on roomsets. I reccommend coffee/mocha for walls,Dulux do an amazing one called dark stone from their heriatge collection, off white woodwork works very well with this and looks v crisp. The accent colour of the moment is burnt orange,or muted shades of lilac and u can then get cushions/ frames/rugS and glass vases in the chosen colour to bring room together. These colours look amazing with chocolate brown. It will give Dh the masculine feel he probably wishes for plus mixing feminine touches. The rest of the furniture can then be similar shades to the sofa; medium to dark wood tones. I have chocolate coloured curtains to tie in with the wood & leather & to create a striking contrast with walls.
