DH is on waiting list for one.....

mummytosteven · 10/01/2006 09:56

DH has seriously contemplated one, in the hopes that if I come off the Pill I might actually have a sex drive

NomDePlume · 10/01/2006 09:57

My DH is too much of a chicken to have one .

TinyGang · 10/01/2006 10:01

May I suggest you keep a couple of little ice packs in the freezer. Dh had his done and laughed about this but he was blimmin glad of them when he was a bit er..sore

Bomper · 10/01/2006 10:17

Glad this thread is here, was going to start one of my own as I have a question. Dh is having a vasectomy, and we have just received a date from the hospital - Friday 31 March. Trouble is, we have a short break booked, starting the following Monday. Will he be 'comfortable' to drive by then? I confidantly told him he would, but now starting to worry a bit.

Ailsa · 10/01/2006 10:42

Possibly not Bomper. My dh was 'done' last year, next day he said that he couldn't see what all the fuss was about, and that he wouldn't need a week off work. Boy was he wrong!! He was very uncomfortable for at least 3 or 4 days afterwards, and still wasn't 100% when he went back to work. He's a Royal Mail driver, and was fine as long as he was driving (after a week at home) but had to get his boss to put someone else in the van with him to get out and pick up the bags etc.

After all that he might be ok for driving, but not much else - keep him dosed up on painkillers.

NomDePlume · 10/01/2006 10:47

PMSL @ getting your DH 'done', A

Bomper · 10/01/2006 11:19

OMG!!! Better get him some extra strenght Ibruprofen then!! Do you think it would be worth him taking Arnica before hand?

SleepyJess · 10/01/2006 11:22

We conceived DS2 whilst DH was on the waiting list (Bloody useless condoms!)

eefs · 10/01/2006 11:29

are you serious fastasleep?
you want more children, are physically able to have them but choosing to sterilise now and adopt in the future?

It's not as easy as that and the choice that you make now will stand against you.

JoolsToo · 10/01/2006 11:31

babies come out of stomachs?

SleepyJess · 10/01/2006 11:33

I think it's very admirable that Fastasleep has decided that if she has any future children that she will adopt. Guessing here.. but I imagine that is just a possible future scenario and not something she is planning with the same determination (and/or desperation) as someone who is unable to have their own biological child.

How does being sterilised stand against you?! It doesn't suggest unsuitablility as an adoptive parent does it?

Def get some arnica. It's the bruising more than anything that hurts. I couldn't help laughing in dh's face when he moaned that it hurt. I don't remember getting much sympathy when I had a caesarian (sp?) with dd2.

Bomper · 10/01/2006 12:48

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, I had to go through 3 births so I am sure Dh can manage. Plus, he can take as strong a painkiller as he likes afterwards whereas I couldn't because of breastfeeding. So, no comparison really!!

NomDePlume · 10/01/2006 12:48

PMSL (again) at laughing in DH's face, Ailsa

fastasleep · 10/01/2006 13:05

Yes I want more, I'm 18 right now but seriously I'm not being horrifically sick for 6 months of another pregnancy, and ever since DS (our first) DH and I have talked about future adoption/fostering and we have both wanted to do it...

Obviously fostering is very job dependent and I doubt I'll get chance to do that for a long long while, I haven't completely thought that one through yet! We plan to adopt another when I'm in my mid to late 30's, if we are refused by the English adoption services for being weird somehow (?!) then we will adopt from abroad and pay like a certain future Mrs Pitt (bleh @ wanting to be anything like her!)

I'm glad some of you guys agree and think it's a fab idea! I hope you don't need too many ice-packs for that drive Bomper lol! Dh has a friend having one this week so they can compare... notes

How old is DH/DP Fastasleep?

NomDePlume · 10/01/2006 13:15

I know you didn't ask, but I can't help thinking that 18 is very young to be deciding that you don't want to be carrying any more kids.

NomDePlume · 10/01/2006 13:17

sorry, fasta, I shouldn't have posted that. It wasn't my place to say it and you've already made an informed decision as a couple. Sorry again

mummytosteven · 10/01/2006 13:20

Would you consider getting DH to freeze some sperm in case you change your mind at a future date?

SleepyJess · 10/01/2006 13:24

I didn't realise how young you were Fstaslp.. but seeing as it's DH having the snip, it's more relvent re HIS age which was why I asked.

Have you been through the counselling bit which both of you have to have before you get the ok for the op?

fastasleep · 10/01/2006 15:12

DH is nearly 31... we might freeze some, but I'm quite sure it would be past it's use by date by the time I wanted to have more babies naturally or otherwise... 10 years isn't it?

Lots of people think I'm too young for lots of things, I'm about 30 in my head I tell you... well a silly 30 year old!
