Can't help thinking that a holiday in a remote French cottage with a six year old, a three year old and a 2 month old baby isn't going to be much fun.

dh is determined to go to France as usual this summer when our new baby will be 2 months old and hopefully breastfed.

the cottage is very remote, with no tv or dvd. I am dreading it. The girls got a bit bored last year, and how on earth do you spend the day on the beach with a 2 month old? I probably will have had very little sleep and this will continue on holiday. atm I can't help thinking it will just be like being at home except without any comforts or friends.

Can't bear to say I don't want to go though as it would ruin holidays for everyone else.

Balls, sorry, we're 15 miles south of Bordeaux. However if you want a day out, please do head on down this way! I could take you to see the sights of Bordeaux???

Hi Enid, I am expecting no 2 around the same as you and we are discussing similar. Had a great time in Corfu last year in our own villa with pool, etc, and although I am DETERMINED we are going to have a holiday in June, realistically I just can't stomach the thought of travelling overseas with newborn. Think I feel pressured to do it in a way as I seem to know plenty of parents who 'effortlessly' manage it. I just know I'll be worrying about keeping baby out of the sun all the time and I really can't face packing all that baby gear you supposedly need.

I just feel we've got to do something, even if it's just a few days away en famille. DH has now booked 4 weeks holiday around my due date in the hope he will actually be here for the birth, and I just think we work so hard for holidays we should 'do' something in June.

Like the link to the posh hotel in Cadiz btw, looks fab! Hope all going well with pregnancy too.

Thanks its all going really well!

If I could go out of the school hols I would love a villa with a pool - but during August it is prohibitive

Have spoken to dh briefly on phone (funny how they never want to have an in-depth convo while at work ) and he agrees about not going but we are going to chat about it tonight.

I said the worst thing that would happen if we didnt go is that we would regret it, but the worst thing that could happen if we did go is that it was a complete nightmare putting us off france for ever and causing me to file for divorce

he has agreed to cancel.

dd1 was disappointed but cheered up at the prospect of being able to go to the stables for a whole week during the summer.

dd2 is secretly relieved as she won't have to interrupt her drip feed of the Poisson Rouge website.

will look further into thurlestone or maybe try and get a last minute cheapy week somewhere sunny.

I feel enormously relieved. Thanks all.

ooh pph that place looks great - I can't believe how reasonable it is given the facilities. Did they say the (adult) food was good?

PrincessPeaHead · 10/01/2006 14:43

yup, they said it was all fab.
I'll get her to email me a full critique and report back if you like...!
