Many of you know some of the story.
After a nightmare time and two years of trying to decide what to, I moved overseas (last year)with my three kids. Now I feel stronger and glad to have made the move but I feel I have to try living in the UK again before deciding whether to stay in the UK or Portugal. I have had to come to terms with so much and this is ongoing but I feel I could do better in the UK now and would only miss the huge amounts of sunshine here.
I cannot decide whether to move back to the same area or a new area in the UK. There is some convenience in moving back there but while we lived there I lost my DP, Sister, Mother and Grandmother. Wherever I live the memories will be with me anyway.

I would like to know what you think about whether we go back to the same area or try a new area in the UK?

honestly, I think you would be happier somewhere where you'll be able to meet like-minded people, somewhere with a real mix of people, and that would be easier to do in the UK where you haven't got the language barrier - nothing to stop you having a holiday home in the sun as well!

i think you'd better buy us a beer!

Good luck with whatever you decide. Don't forget to take your thermals when house hunting

we'll buy each other lots of beer and how about my old friend Mr Jack Daniels can he come?

sl, I think I have forgotten about how cold it can get, you could have sunbathed here today!

jmg1 · 08/01/2006 22:12

If you can't wait you two could pop over here for a clean weekend

I think alot of expats live in a bubble, it never feels quite real. It's hard to integrate because of the language difficulties and you end up being linked with people just because they speak English. I feel somewhere in the middle of two communities. I think with hindsight I should have moved to Canada!

The only problem with Brighton is that 20 per cent of the population is gay. Which obviously reduces the number of available men, before you even start weeding out the weirdos. May not be a consideration for you right now, don't know, but worth bearing in mind!

jmg1 · 08/01/2006 22:15

sl, I know what you mean the expats and the Portuguese generally are so seperate. Life here does not feel real in some ways.

... although that percentage also includes gay women, so it's not as if there are 20 per cent fewer straight men...

spacedonkey · 08/01/2006 22:16

I don't think jmg is after a man ...

jmg1 · 08/01/2006 22:16

edam, I am a single Dad, so hopefully there will be some single women around

Yeah but jmg, you are gorgeous and I'm sure there's plenty of both sexes in Brighton that would be interested .... you'll have to fight them off

jmg1 · 11/01/2006 18:58

Galaxy
How are you doing?

I grew up in Brighton with a single Dad. It didn't seem that bad. That feels such a long time ago now though!

It's good to hear that the mil isn't such a problem but don't let her think you moving back is another chance for her "games"
