Donating shoes?

I've just done a massive clear-out of things, and have a big bag of outgrown shoes. I know using second-hand shoes isn't recommended, but I've also heard that there are organisations which do want them (to send overseas, I think - idea being any shoes better than no shoes, I suppose?).

Anyone know who these organisations are and where to send things? The bag's so big I don't want to lug it to local charity shops only to be told no thanks.

NOt sure which organisations but I've seen shoe shops in the High Street with collection points for old shoes and I think I might have seen shoe recycling bins with the usual recycling bins at the supermarket. Worth having a look out in your local area.

there is a sho recycle bin in our Asda car park.
Some mums on here might be grateful of them too!

We have clothes bins near us which take shoes as well as long as they are paired in bags. I think they are salvation army ones. I know of 2 (1 in street, 1 in local park)and they are just with the normal bottle banks etc.

There is a search thing here where you can find your nearest one. It does actually say on the front of the bins that you can put shoes in.

Thanks all - Pixel, that's clever! - and I've searched, but no Sallie Army near me sadly. There are some Scope bins nearby, though - will go and eccentrically examine them for mention of shoes.

If not, any other suggestions very welcome.

Auntymandy, I'd be delighted to pass them on, but would rather get rid of them all in one go & I'm not sure anyone would want the lot! However ... if anyone does, shout.
