DD1, age 2.5, has chest infection. She has been prescribed oral ab's. BUt she will NOT take medication. She spits it up.

Have already tried bribery w/sweets. No joy. Have offered drink of juice/water afterwards. No success.

How do you get your little ones to take meds??

took her back. said the infection is in the top of her chest and gave her a different antibiotic.

but she is STILL coughing away and weak. again, she's coughed so hard she was sick.

i don't know what to do w/another night of this! poor wee soul! she calls out and moans all night b/c she cannot sleep properly.

is it possible for a 2.5 year old to take a powerful cough suppressant?

robutussin did FA!

hi, haven't read the thread but have you tried a humidifier or wet towels on the radiators - this really does work well for coughs.

Have you tried the Benylin Night Coughs stuff? We've found it very good - but not sure if it's OK to be combined with antibiotics, as it's got something to make them drowsy.

can't put anything on the heater b/c it's an electric storage type. will buy humidifier, tho!

cold or warm vapour type?

i'm getting desperate here to get this poor child some decent sleep!

er, warm?

if the heating will be on in her room tonight you could leave a bowl of water in the room - even that might help a little. or you could try a steam inhalation with a bowl of hot water and a towel over her head - if she would do it.

assuming you have an electric kettle, set it up in her room to get some steam into the air...

madmarchhare · 06/01/2006 22:46

Have you got the top of her bed/cot raised?

DS loves his meds during the day if he ever has to take it. But during the night if he wakes and isn't with it, I find pushing his cheeks in makes a handy space for DP to get the spoon in and he hasn't spit it out like that yet.... Perhaps you DD is a bit too old though epis.
