have you loved or regretted getting a dog?

This question goes out to people who didn't really want to get a dog but kind of had their arm twisted by family and went on to get one.Did you regret it or love it when you didn't think you would.It's not that I don't like them,it's more that I don't like the mess and the hassle of taking them for walks and feeling that I'm never alone in my house.But the kids would love one.

We got a scottie when I was pregnant with dd1, and when she arrived was an absolute treasure. We, or rather dh, made sure he still had loads of fuss and 2 long walks a day, so he didn't feel too abandoned. However since dd2 has arrived he only gets 1 walk a day, has to sleep downstairs, and is constantly in the doghouse,so to speak. Poor thing now spends most of his time hiding from the toddler from hell under the stairs. Love him to bits, but he's not really happy.
