Has anyone else's dh turned into a miserable sod over the holidays?

My dh started the holidays OK, but has gradually got grumpier and grumpier, to the point where today we were supposed to go round my mum's to meet up with my siblings and their children and he refused to go. So, he spent a lovely relaxing afternoon on his own, and I spent it running round after dd2 who at 21 months is in to everything, and trying to stop ds and dd1 eating the entire remnants of mum's christmas chocs!!!! B*stard!!!!

No, mine was grumpy before the holidays began

Not so much a miserable sod as a whining, moaning, critical, lazy, irritable, hypochondriacal Victor Meldrew
But not miserable, no

Its a man thing, too much leisure time means they get chance to think - and thinking isn't good for them

They are just not very good at it I find....

He's been quite good actually, even doing the housework without me asking him. In fact he would make a great househusband. We've even took turns in sleeping in, but he managed to get his lie in this morning and I had to get up with DS at 7.00 feeling like my head would explode after last night.

Here's a fine example of just how lovely he is at the moment. I had just cooked a huge Sunday dinner for everyone, he had finished his, I was still eating mine, he wandered off into the kitchen and came back with a shirt of his that I was about to wash, and started moaning and shouting at me about all the stains that had appeared on it that weren't there when he put it in the linen basket!!! I just turned round and said 'I am eating my dinner, I really don't need you shouting at me'. And he stomped off into the kitchen. God, did I really deserve that?!!

Bomper, you poor thing. I admire you for keeping your cool. Mine certainly has his moments. He's got man flu at the moment and is being very precious. TBH, I can't remember being "ill" like him - I was even driving 3 days after my Caesarian.

Furball · 01/01/2006 21:03

Yeah, mines at it too, though after a massive row last night over nothing imparticular he seems to be calmer tonight. I think in our case it's a mixture of cabin fever and the stress of putting our house on the market.

my DH has been under my feet since 23rd and I have 4 days to go ... he is driving me mad ..... I have DONE christmas single-handedly and he is tutting when I made the point I was going to relax from now on .... so I keep sending him to the gym ,,,, he's been 5 times in the last 6 days ... and STILL he's a little shit !!!

Chicagomum · 01/01/2006 21:04

My DH seems to have this uncanny knack of falling ill at every holiday (christams easternad when we go away in the summer) rendering him miserable and totally useless so the holiday ends up more tiring for me than when he is at work as I have 3 "children" to look after. He is currently in bed nursing "man flu".

Bomper .... he yelled at me - cos I did HIS washing .... a white wash .... with a YELLOW duster that managed to slip in .... praps he might do some chores !!!

Bomper · 01/01/2006 22:48

Good for you Crystaltips!! Mines been off since the 23rd too. He goes back to work on Tuesday - HURRAH!!! Perhaps me and the children will be able to enjoy ourselves then!!
