Does anyone else out there hate New Yeas Eve?

I personally am glad that I have children and have an excuse not to go out. Why doe people think it is great to get drunk, throw up and spend the next day with a throbbing head? Maybe when you're 18 with no responsibilities?!! Why do people think that you must enjoy yourself and be happy just cos it's New Years Eve?

Am I just a misery? We stayed in put the kids to bed had a curry and some booze and rolled into bed at 1.30 and I really enjoyed myself.

Oh good. Someone else like me. I kept posting on here last night and I must have sounded so miserable compared to everyone else who was partyig and getting together with friends to get sloshed.
I hate new years' eve too.

Marne · 01/01/2006 19:35

me too, i was in bed by 10.30 last night!

Furball · 01/01/2006 19:35

I hate it too. Always have done, loads of old hype for nothing. DH and I ended up arguing at 10 to midnight and carried on the bad atmosphere all night and most of this morning Yeah a great start to a happy new year.

oh I hate it. Am fuming about last night. At 5.30pm (!?) our upstairs neighbours came down to say 'we were going into London but now we're going to have a few people over'. A few people meant 15 - these are only 1/2 bedroom flats. Last year we agreed to them having a party and it was the loudest thing ever - DD was 3 weeks old, it was HELL and we said never again. Persuaded him not to use the room over DD's room but then realised that a)once they were all drunk that would never stick and b) we'd be sat in the noisy rooms going crazy. So we loaded everything up into the car and drove over to my parents house (they've been in NZ since Dec 1st so had to get water, boiler etc. on, no food etc. and it was bloody freezing) which took 90 mins by which time DD - teething like mad - was beside herself, couldn't get her to bed til 9pm and then she was awake screaming from 2am to 5am, with me in tears too.
Then had to meet friend who haven't seen for a year at 10am, heel came off my boot 5mins into walk and DH had to run after me with new boots. Got into the car to come home again and heard on the news that there were 35 stabbings in London last night and a record number of 999 calls. How festive
BLOODY NEW YEARS EVE I HATE IT
aah I feel better after that rant

beansprout · 01/01/2006 19:43

It's shite isn't it? All that chasing the minute-to-twelve moment, al the drinking, everything overpriced... nah, not me. Went to bed at 10.30 and waddya know - it was 2006 when I woke up and I didn't have to do all that other nonsense! Bah humbug!!

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 01/01/2006 19:45

oh for goodness sake can't people have a party on nye without it being a personal insult? sounds like you would have done better to stay put, get dd off to sleep early and she probably would have slept through the whole thing. better luck next year!

GoodKingGeorginars · 01/01/2006 19:47

I really would have preferred to stay at home, but after last year - never again - it really was that loud. I don't mind the party really, it's the fact that they came to ask us if it was OK at 5.30pm on the night which is a tad pointless really!

spilla · 01/01/2006 19:47

This is absolutely greeaaaaaaaaaat!

I don't feel such a freak now!!

Well, I had a nice time - nice relaxed murder mystery dinner party at a friends, with all the kids sleeping upstairs. But I could have done with going home at about 10:30 rather than the obligatory "hang around till after midnight" thing. And then ds didn't take kindly to bed-hopping in the small hours (he's quite good at doing it at 10:30!) so was up till nearly 3 trying to get him to sleep. Grrr.

Next year I'm going to be chief babysitter - my friends can dump their kids here (well, the kids that are fairly guaranteed to sleep that is) and I'll have a nice early night (and earn lots of brownie points from said friends who will imagine I'm being noble and self-sacrificing).

GoodKingGeorginars · 01/01/2006 19:55

I do feel really bah humbug and ashamed now actually. Nothing against a NYE party in principal, but plenty against late notice plus we envisaged a repeat of last year when we woke up to fag butts, sick and empty beer cans in our garden (doesn't seem to have happened this time thank goodness). Nice.
I think my problem with NYE is I'd love to have a civilised night out but other than going to someones house for dinner it just isn't possible. And I was majorly pissed off at having to leave my home for the night - if only they'd asked earlier in the day we'd have done next better. nevertheless, very glad to have found some fellow NYE haters - everyone I know seems to love it.
Next year we shall hopefully be living in splendid detached seclusion in NZ. Hurrah!

SPARKLER1 · 01/01/2006 21:29

spilla - I used to like NYE but guess I have grown to hate it. We used to have great parties as a kid - everyone in our neighbourhood in each others homes. Before kids we used to go out with friends to the pub which was okay.
Maybe it's just me being miserable because my party days are over and I am now a responsible parent.
