DS1 just drawn my attention to a posting with a tragic story about a young boy being shot protecting his little sister and saying that FB companies have offered to pay 45p to cover his medical costs of an operation each time the message is passed on . . . .

This is a scam, yes? I have taken the line that it is much better to support charities like Barnados who will work with the families, but just wanted to check - I am not just being cynical, am I?

It sounds like a scam.

Is it on snopes?

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 09/11/2011 19:14

I seriously doubt that is true.

But maybe I am as cynical as you.

It's a very shitty thing to make up though.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 09/11/2011 19:15

Sounds like bollox to me.

Mrsfluff · 09/11/2011 19:16

I'd assume scam. A friend of mine posted it (oh the shame) and my first thoughts were - who are these 'Facebook companies' and how will they know you've posted it.

Notquitegrownup · 09/11/2011 19:16

thanks ladies that was my gut feeling too

It's probably not a "scam" in the sense that I doubt anyone is making any money from it, but it will be a hoax, yes.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 09/11/2011 19:20

Is it this one?

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 09/11/2011 19:22

hada look on snopes and there is a similar hoax but not identical, so I would err on the side of caution and delete the message not pass it on.

Notquitegrownup · 10/11/2011 13:19

Yes, v. similar to that one thanks. I'd forgotten about snopes

Probably harmless and a useful way to chat to ds about these things.

Don't think you can delete on facebook now, can you, just have an option to hide messages.
