... today on the train it was quiet coz noone is commuting (except me!) and next to me a couple sat with their 5(?) yr old dd. They having such a wonderful time giggling and such and just sat there smiling. Then her Dad pulls out a bottle of Irn Bru and hands her it..... she drinkd the WHOLE bottle and then, and I am NOT kidding she went mental. Her Mum and Dad were saying to each other "why is she doing this???" she was whooping and yelling and shouting and screaming and laughing..... proper loopy! Now I'm not saying she was loopy, but I mean she was sitting going "wooowooowooo" at the top of her voice. Her parents kept saying stopt it, thats terrible, why are you doing that. And she would giggle and carry on..... then they had a conversation amongst themselves saying "why does she only do this when we get on the train... or when we sit down in a restaurant?"! My first reaction was to say does she maybe start this after you give her a bottle of Irn Bru???"

OMG the kid went from doing a jigsaw with her Dad to totally flipping her lid in the space of 30 minutes! Could Irn Bru do THAT so quickly?????

Her parents were clearyl bewildered and embarassed, so I don't think she had any problem as such. It was quite upsetting to watch her parents trying to stop her WHOOOOOPING at the top of her voice!

It's got caffeine and sugar in it so yes, it can do this so quickly, I so don't think children should be given caffeine.,

Iron Bru, it's like alcohol for little kids, and that;s why it's mine esp with a hangover

babaworshipper · 28/12/2005 23:44

Also has E104 one of mental e numbers. I had to stop drinking it because it was making dd mental through my BM. Same e number is also in some amoxicilin...... didn't bloody check until the third night of but why is she still awake (at 1.30am - at 7 months )

SackAche · 28/12/2005 23:44

WWW - But would it work within 10mins??? Thats all it was between her to be playing nice, to being out of control.... if it hadn;t been for hearing her parents conversation (clearly bewildered and confused) then I would have thought there was something wrong with her that was diagnosed. But they were laughing and doing a jigsaw before..... next thing she's pinging the jigsaw everywhere and doing these weird whooping noises and the parents are aruging amongst themselves why!

And Toothy, so suprised at your restraint and not asking the question

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 23:48

Yep, believe me, I've given my ds Coke when I've wanted him to stay awake, the effect is instant!

SackAche · 28/12/2005 23:48

Kalex - If it wasn't for MN .... and judgemental nature on here.... I'd have been right in there with the "D'you not think it might the SHITE you're giving her"... line! MN saved me from a black eye!!!

Bet they don't give her Irn Bru again in a hurry. I was in the Livingston shopping centre when pregnant with dst and saw a woman hand her toddler in the buggy a can with a straw in it! My first thought wasn't for the behaviour but the teeth.

Our dentist told us she has had to take all the teeth out of an 18 month old before and it is a regular occurrance.

Smarties and things like that have the same effect.

babaworshipper · 28/12/2005 23:50

It would def work within 10 mins. That bloomin anti b proved that. DD would get all sleepy I would think right last dose before bed..... yep still bouncing about 5 hours later.

kalexcelsis · 28/12/2005 23:54

Toothy, not been much movement on the Scottish Meetup thread, have we got a date yet

SackAche · 28/12/2005 23:57

Scary!! I remember my friend coming to me when her ds was ill with sickness etc. He was 6mths younger than my ds at the time..... so about 12mths old. The GP had told that of he could keep ANYTHING down at all to try lemonade.... just coz he hadn't had anything for 2 days and was tiny anyway. She translated that as...... OR COLA! And the next time she came round her ds had Cola in a BOTTLE...... when I asked what the FECK she was doing she said "its okay its decaffeinated. OMG... her ds is 3 now and drinks cola as part of his daily routine.... Oh and is completely uncontrollable and horribly violent (scratches until he bleeds)to my ds.
