I blubbed like a baby. Unfortunately dh had to go and walk in 15 mins from end with his usual "what's all this cr*p" and spoil it for me. Thought it was very moving and am looking forward to next weeks. Will have to find dh some DIY to keep him out of my hair for an hour.

yes but am not looking forward to sad stories next week. Did we ever find out WHY exactly David was out up for adoption - thught he was very wise to be so cool

Yes, wasn't it lovely?

I really felt for the woman who'd had to give her son away to allow her to work though - she'd obviously bottled it all up for all these years. Three cheers for Social Security!

codswallop - yes. see comment below. Father was feckless alcoholic, mother had to work and no such thing as creches in those days. The sister kept saying how her family had been split up because of him (presumably he started bringing in money again when she was born).

I saw half of it and it was very moving. I thought everyone had such a great attitude as well, no one seemed bitter or twisted. And wasn't it wonderful when the brother from Canada turned up unexpectedly?

codswallop · 30/10/2003 15:51

oh superblubathon at that point. do you think that davids wife was hinting at getting a bit pissed off?

wasnt it funny how identical the small fat man looked to his sister? no one remarked on their identikit faces!!

I guess she may have been a bit envious, Coddy. It must be pretty overwhelming to have this massive family appear out of the blue and the sis who had done all the searching was full one. I thought David's mum dealt with it very gracefully, she was lovely.

Re the little fat chap, I think his wife commented on their noses being the same!

codswallop · 30/10/2003 18:41

yes - that really tugged at the wallop heartstrings.

Dh came in at that point

It seems that David's father was pretty awful and forced his mother to have him adopted so she could continue to work and feed the rest of the family, so she didn't really have much choice. David himself said that you have to get over it and move on in life, despite these things, and I suppose the fact he had such lovely adoptive parents helped make up for the sad start.

I have a friend who recently found her birth mother and she said that having met her, she is now much more sympathetic towards her mum's decision to give her baby away. My friend now works for an adoption society, helping others searching for their family.

Yes I think the fact hat he was older gave him more worldy wise - ness in the whole thing (Hmm great expression Cod)

I loved the way he hugged his adoptive mother.
