HELP. Anyone's dp/dh/you an electrician? Big problem with my electric oven.

Had a ham roastimg in the oven earlier today. Dh was cleaning the 6 ring gas hob when they all just started clicking like they are trying to ignite. In a panic dh switched of the electrics, which of course also switched off the oven.

This is now hours later and the hob is still clicking so we've unplugged it but the main oven is not working.

And it's Christmas eve.

Can anyone advise me????

Everything crossed for you here! Sorry I'm not much of a help am I?

is your hob attached to your oven?
If not (like ours) see if you can turn off the electricity to the hob somewhere without affecting the oven, so at least the ham can finish without the hob sparking.

Also do a 'duh' check - our ignition button sometimes gets stuck 'on' and needs levering out again with a teaspoon. Track down the manufacturers handbook (online if you've lost it) and check the troubleshooting section.

Do check all the fuses everywhere too - in the socket / fuse spur to the cooker and of the other things plugged into the same circuit.

We once thought we had a huge (and expensive) boiler problem, when all that was actually happening was that the fuse in the kettle was playing up - if it was plugged into the wall, even if not switched on, every time the boiler kicked in it overloaded the circuit and the tripswitch went.

If all else fails, ring dad or FIL - they love to be asked this stuff.

Is the oven electric and hob gas?
The ignition button is most likely stuck. So long as all the gas to the hob is off you should be OK to put the oven back on.

Try putting your hob back on and lighting the rings with a match. I find my burners do the clicky thing if you slosh too much water about when you clean the top.
Once they've dried out mine light normally - so it could be worth a go.

if you got the ignition switch wet it will be fine once it dries ,,i do it all the time

Oven and hob are seperate.

Hob is fine now - it must have needed to dry out. Oven still not working though. My Dad and FIL have looked and they think the elemement has gone It's not even a year old.
