My Mum came out of hospital last night following her hip replacement a week ago. She wasn't able to even get into bed by herself yesterday evening but seems a bit better today.I'm having to sleep there to help her get to the toilet in the night and go in to sort lunch, washing etc and deal with a 2 year old and 6 year old. I have no time to go to a supermarket before Christmas (just the local corner shop Co-Op & the district nurse is due to come and take her stitches out at some point on Christmas day, no idea when.I'm going down with the stinking cold I've been trying to fight off for the last week. Can't face cooking, DH is vegetarian. Help !

We're down in Dorset. Just spoken to DH who has suggested ordering a curry on Christmas Eve and heating it up on Christmas day, not very appealing but he might have a point I think.

Kittypickle · 22/12/2005 14:12

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I'm just feeling very sorry for myself as I've been struggling with not going down with this cold and been defeated and I've been doing an impression of the duracell bunny on speed for the last couple of weeks. I guess if I got off my backside I could drag my long suffering children round a supermarket and check out the chuck it in the oven section !

Have you a nice deli or M&S near you?
Lots of cold bits, warm bread, salad and plenty of bubbly would sort me.
Is your dh pulling his weight???[suspicious emoticon]

yes, do what almost an angel said.

take a little time for yourself, can't look after other peopel if you don't look after self. buy a few nice ready to eat bits

being together is the important thing, not what you eat ( so long as you eat something)

gossifairyonthexmastree · 22/12/2005 14:27

oh kittypickle, i have no new suggestions but just wanted to send you a cuddle
the m&s/deli options sound like a good idea
i agree its not what you eat but that you're all together

Kittypickle · 22/12/2005 14:27

DH is pulling his weight but was ill during September and was signed off for a month and had a small op a month ago, so don't want to push him at the moment. M&S is shut as the car park at the local shopping centre very unhelpfully collapsed a few weeks ago. However, I've just been thinking and am now contemplating bundling up children into car and going to Waitrose which is not too far in the scheme of things. I'm definitely going to lose the idea of a "proper" cooked meal

Treefuses, I'm sorry you've had a similar situation and I'm glad to know it's going to get better. My poor Mum was so tired last night when I finally managed to get her home, then I was so knackered she couldn't wake me up for ages when she needed to go to the toilet. Where are social services when you need them ?!!

Thank you all for your posts, the paracetamol are kicking in and I'm going to take my long suffering to Waitrose right now .

KP..I would suggest shopping alone.Much less bother.
Why can't your dh deal with the kids? You can't do it all.
