Ebay question

I sold a dress on Ebay last Sunday, got an email on the MOndasy asking for it to be sent asap so posted it the same day. Buyer has just emailed me (quite pd off) to say it hasn't arrived and the parties have been and gone. I have lost the receipt for postage and now don't know what to do- i haven't sold much before.
Whose responsibility is the dress after I post it? Do I have to offer a refund? IT wasn't much tbh but how do I know it definitely didn't arrive?

Did you state that you won't accept responsiblity for postage?

Have you contacted the PO?

The thing is that she could be pulling a fast one on you. I have heard a few stories about this and seems to becoming more common.

it isn't your fault she should have e-mailed you before she bid and said can you get it to her for a specific date hate people like this!

Eulalia · 20/12/2005 12:34

I guess it's likely its not arrived yet - some of my post is taking ages. It's her fault for not buying something sooner regarding the parties. She doesn't need to know you've lost the receipt so just tell her you have proof and confirm that the address is correct. You could always ask eBay themselves for advice.

Its a bit of a grey area, I think. Doesn't it go to dispute resolution?

Hayls · 20/12/2005 12:37

I didn't state anything about the postage but I did say that I don't 'do' refunds (only because I can't be a88sed)
Post has been dreadful here recently but could it really take over a week (1st class)

Its not your fault it didnt arrive on time. Id say it is somewhere in the midst of the Xmas post. Royal Mail, even with a receipt wouldnt look into it for 15 days anyway so tell her to wait to see if it turns up but sorry you did post it and you cant be held responsible for the delay of Xmas Post.

I'm with Charlie on this.
I am a regular ebay seller and lately packages have taken ages, though some miracoulously have made it there next day!
If she needed it for a specific date she should have told you. Sounds like she might be the type who buys things in a shop, leaves the tags in, and then returns them after the event...
As for going to ebay for advice... forget it... you usually get a standard reply to refer to their FAQ's etc.

Ok got another email from her today asking what is going on... what on earth should I say? I replied yesterday saying that I HAD posted it.
She is one very annoyed lady

Just tell her that you will file a 'lost item' report with the post office and she will have to wait until you hear back from them. That usually can take anything from 2-8 weeks.

Pixiefish · 21/12/2005 13:51

If she didn't pay postage insurance then it's tough really IF you could prove that you'd posted it. As you've lost the proof of postage I think that you're stuck.

I'd email her back saying that the Christmas post is probably slow and if she hasn't had it in a week then she should email you and you'll contact the post office. At this point don't mention the lost proof of postage.

Regarding the timescale and the party then it really is tough luck for her- to get it there for a particular time wasn't your responsibility
