20 lbs they say approx at 9 months.

FairyTaleinNewYork · 20/12/2005 09:46

the stage 0/0+ seat i am using is upto 13kg i think.

they all seem to be 9kg and 9months. 9Kg is about 20lb, but I'm sure we moved our two before they reached that. BTW if you need a seat we're trying to offload our isofix one (never crashed - barely even been in a firm braking situation)

cathyspamtaslittlehelper · 20/12/2005 09:47

Have a look at www.childcarseats.org.uk for more info.

cathyspamtaslittlehelper · 20/12/2005 09:48

sorry, am no use at the like thing - haven't managed to get it right yet!

Bagpussinboots · 20/12/2005 09:48

Think its 20 lbs/9 kgs and whenever they can sit up independantly etc. We had the same problem with dd and she was less than 20 lbs at a year old but we put her in the forward facing seat anyway - it did solve the crying too. Apparently as long as they are more than 20 lbs with clothes/shoes on then they are fine.

cathyspamtaslittlehelper · 20/12/2005 09:49

am no use at typing either - should have said am no use at link thing!!!!

MerlinsBeard · 20/12/2005 09:49

we just put ds2 in his 2nd stage (i think) seat...its a britax elite if that helps loL! he was 19.5 lbs when we put him in and supposed to be 20lb/9kg and sitting unsupported for a while. I couldn't bear his little legs up the back of the seat any .onger as hes quite tall so we put him in half a lb early. he loves it, sings to the cars going past

The upper limit for his rearward seat was something like 12 months. can't remember the weight now tho. think it depends on the seat you have if i am thinking right.

FairyTaleinNewYork · 20/12/2005 09:53

right i am off to dig up rocks.

Yes common problem. They get to the point where the hate being stuck in the cradle type seat facing backwards. DS was like this from 6 months. Its 20lb and sitting well but I do know loads of people who have moved them early (ie when less than 20 lb).

FairyTaleinNewYork · 20/12/2005 10:01

she is likely tpo b near 20lb fully clothed with snowsuit etc, should risk it? what would happen if there was an accident and she was underweight?

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 20/12/2005 10:34

thats a hard one...we risked ds2 at 19lb 8oz BUT for the majority of the week DP is at work with the car so hes in teh buggy and ds1 hitches a ride. I don't drive anyway so the chance of an accident was significantly lower for us due to the fact that we are hardly ever in the car

FairyTaleinNewYork · 20/12/2005 10:45

dh says to wait till she is the correct weight as she is close to it, but it has taken over2months for her to gain 2lb. can i take another 2months od screaming?

hiya,
baby is meant to be 20lb for the second stage car seat as we are desperately trying to beef our little man up to reach that weight!!! Apparently, the seats are designed so that if involved in a crash the 20lb+ of baby weight counterbalances the impact or something technical like that!! My little one is desperate for the next stage but is only 17lb so we are waiting....although he hates his one at the moment as he can't sit up and see whats going on - there is a good report on WHICH? about which seats are the best/worst etc.

I thought they should actually be rear facing until they're about a year. DSs 2nd seat was a rear and forward facing one from about, um, 10kg I guess - whenever the baby seats "run out".

uwilalalalalala · 20/12/2005 11:52

I think the logic behind all of this is the strength of the baby's neck musckes to handle an hard brake or crash. If baby is still lying down all day (or reclining) his her neck is not likely to be as strong as a baby who sits up (hence holding his head up with his neck muscles). So, if your baby is sitting well but is slightly under the guide weight, I think you'd be fine.

I have 7 month DS who is 19 pounds but he doesn't sit up yet so I'm going to wait until he sits up and then front facing car seat here we come.
