Need some ideas as haven't got him anything at the moment.

My Grandad is this age, I've bought him a gift pack of 3 old fashioned real ale type beers (he discovered the joys of alcohol late in life!) and some chocolate. Previously I've bought him wartime themed gifts from Past Times.

has he got a digital radio? I bet he'd love listening to all the old comedy shows on Radio 7.

How much are you planning to spend?

santaslittleunicorn · 19/12/2005 14:38

not too much money will be spent as I haven't got much, and he is very difficult to please.

(also not on very warm terms generally with my family- but that's another story!)

He has loads of books, and I think he is war tired now IYKWIM.

Does he go out a lot? Thermals, very warm hat scarf and gloves etc

videos of old films, war films if he likes them (check first)

Does he live alone or in residential care?

oh no still with the old dragon (whoops) mother.

They are off to Malta for Christmas (where he was stationed in the war) with my brother/wife and son, and sister...

We weren't invited.

(I'm the family PITA you see~!)

My dad loves doing crosswords and puzzles so I've got him, amongst other things a book of Sudoki puzzles.

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 19/12/2005 15:02

I presume you have children?

Has he got a recent photo of you and them? My Grandad (92) loves nothing better for Christmas/Birthday than receiving a recent photo of us (or even better just the boys LOL) in a frame - and now our oldest is 5, he gets a 'personalised' picture drawn by DS.

santaslittleunicorn · 19/12/2005 15:27

my mum gets all the photos, and they have lots (as they rarely see the gkids)

ta for all suggestions.....but still looking for more ideas.

we used to give my grandfather super-deluxe versions of things he used all the time eg stamps in a posh stamp book, brass paperclips in smart box, lovely pens, desk stuff etc.

Failing that, chocolate or booze, or books - NOT about the war but just novel or biographies he might enjoy.
