How do I get rid of / mask the smell of dog wee on our Christmas tree?

Potted Christmas tree, bought last year. Miraculously survived all year, so was feeling virtuous about not having to buy another this year. It looks lovely- all bushy and green. Got it inside yesterday, decked it up with lights baubles and tinsel, and it SMELLS FOUL! Think it must have been used as a toilet by neighbour's dogs. Can't leave the windows open- it's too cold. Am contemplating spraying with tea tree oil and lavender, but not sure if that would damage the foliage. Any dog owners out there have any solutions?

I was going to suggest fabreze but again not sure if that would kill it off either

I think I might be tempted to return it to the garden and get another

could you undress it and take it out and hose it down before spraying it with something? then hose it again. let it dry and see if it still pongs - you still have time before the big day!

bicarbonate of soda sprinkled on or all around the pot should do the trick AND it could look like snow.

We had one a few years ago from a Xmas tree farm -it stank the house out! We decided it was probably fox wee. Tried hosing it down but didn't really make it any better I'm afraid.

We now get strange looks choosing our tree every year as we sniff them

hadn't thought of fox wee- could be that I suppose. Will certainly try bicarb, thanks
