did you ache like hell after having your children?

Six months on, I'm past the night sweats and the hair loss.

But I ache like hell. I have shooting pains in my joints from my feet to my neck, my knees are knackered (hard to get up from the floor) and my back is painful too.

A common experience or a sign of ageing badly??

2 X 10 1/2 lb a year apart

I still walk like john wayne 5 years on.

its the hormone relaxin which is designed to make your ligaments stretch (relax) so childbirth is possible)

it takes around a year for your hormones to settle down to normal levels

so its quite normal .. try heat? and not straining (yeah, right)

I ached for ages, couldnt walk straight for six months as my back was so bad. I dont think its your age (i'm only 23)

PruniStuffing · 18/12/2005 10:01

No, it's common enough. I felt like a bus had hit me, from about 3 months to six or seven. Nobody warned me about this and I thought I'd developed rheumatoid arthritis or something awful. Even the doctor didn't know what it was. Turned out a few mates were feeling the same, so I stopped worrying and it went away.

Getting up from the floor without using any support took a year. It does get better!

yes, I ached for months, I had forgotton about that bit until now! I was only 22, so not age related, but rememebr if this is your first baby you have probably never carried anything that heavy for such a large proportion of your day, so muscles will protest a bit.

merglemergle · 18/12/2005 10:06

yes. both times. and it threw me cos it was about month 3-6ish not directly after. as someone said it is to do with relaxin.

MY dd is now 18 months old and my feet ached, especially on waking up for at least 12 months. When I got out of bed it was a struggle to walk to the bathroom, but 18 months on I more or less back to normal.

Not quite though as I think I have done some serious damage to my back/hip. I only had 18 months between both my daughters, so was pregnant and still carrying one around quite a bit.

mogwai · 18/12/2005 17:03

thank god it's not just me then! None of my antenatal friends seem to be suffering (all older than me and I'm 33).

Pruni - I also thought it was rhumatoid althritis.....my husband says I'm a total hypochondriac but unless someone is attached to a machine going "beep", he never thinks they're ill.

No sympathy from him!

Feel a bit reassured now.
