DS (will be 4): a ERTL compatible turntable, engine shed, track. A Brio-compatible turntable. A Thomas-Tank-Engine puzzle (can you all detect a theme, here?) Total value = £21.50.
DD (2): a Peter Pan DVD -- the one I got thru the Mumsnet deal, so £5. And a big set of non-staining colouring pens (£5-£10). Total value = £10-£15.

Nothing else in mind, tonight.

codswallop · 24/10/2003 20:05

I dont send cards btw. gave it up three years ago whn I questioned why I was writing cards to dhs family.

No one noticed for ages. i just say " I dont send cards" and people still send them!! Its great.

Ghosty · 24/10/2003 20:13

Lorne ... LOL at your DS ... my DS is nearly 4 and he wants everything on tv too ... except he also wants The Barbie Mixing Kitchen
He is getting a bike for his birthday (end November) so for Xmas I have bought him:
Mission Manta Action Man
Dora the Explorer CD ROM for the computer
Hot Wheels set ... not sure which one - DH bought it for him on a business trip (I think it is a bit old for him but never mind)
I think I will also get him a water pistol set .. we are heading into summer here ...
I WANT to get him a sandpit too ... but we can't stretch to that
I have got DS rather a lot I think - but he won't get much from family as they are all in the UK and family here are 'bah humbug' crap!!
Stocking fillers will be things to replenish his arts and crafts cupboard (crayons, bit of play dough ...) Bubbles ...

ps ... Action Man was on special at $15.00 (5 pounds) ... CD ROM was $40 (approx 13 pounds) ... Hot Wheels set was $30 (10 pounds) ... the water pistols will be about $15 too ... so all in all the total will be about $100 which is about 33 quid ... not bad really.
DH and I won't be getting eachother anything this year ...
I have to send presies to England (postage will be a nightmare) so I am looking into online pressies for them ... - got lots of nieces and nephews ...
And dreaded In Laws coming for Xmas here ...

JanHR · 24/10/2003 20:26

I have got dd (15 months) a doll and buggy for xmas. I am sure that her grandparents will get her a lot more though.

Eowyn · 24/10/2003 20:39

You can get the whole set of Beatrix Potter books from the book people of £29.99 at the mo, thought that was pretty good so am getting dd that, & a pop-up Nutcracker book as can never only order one thing.
She's 3.5 & I haven't worked out what to buy otherwise as she hardly ever plays with what she's got.
Money wise, I earn £400 a month & dh doesn't agree with buying presents so I will have to buy for everyone, so shouldn't be spending much at all, whereas I enjoy buying stuff so much I'm just starting early & feeling virtuous about that.

Davros · 24/10/2003 21:21

I don't "do" Xmas until at least the end of November (after my sister's bd on 25th). This is a habit but its also SO much more Christmassy then and (I find) more fun. I might plan a bit before that. I do send Xmas cards as I buy them from specific charities and I want our friends/family to see the names and nature of the charities (autism of course).

jodee · 24/10/2003 21:45

DS (3.5) is Thomas mad - I was going to try and cut costs this Christmas and get him a £10 engine shed for his little wooden trains, but he's set his heart on the huge roundhouse with the green doors (green is his favourite colour) - a snip at £60! Ahhh well, this is probably going to be the first Christmas that he will actually remember, so let's push the boat out!

misdee · 24/10/2003 22:26

dd's aged 3.5yrs and 1year. they are getting a huge train set between them. dd1 will be getting dolls pram, a watch, possibly leap pad and books, soft toy, clothes, dressing up outfits and a video.
dd2 will be getting a doll, big chunky car, maybe funky feet from elc, hokey cokey elmo, soft toy, teletubbie video, and new clothes.

am also thinking about getting them lots of arts and crafts things for both of them, as dd2 has just started taking an interest in drawing so will have to be chucky style crayons, pens etc. might also get some baby einstein things as well.
plus the usual small gifts as stocking fillers.

Dds are 3.10 and 1.9 years...

A toy kitchen to share (Woolies, £20 - half price!)
A video each (Angelina Ballerina, Maisy's Christmas)
My Little Pony each
Russian dolls for dd1 as she's fascinated by them
Lots of books each
Socks, hairclips, pens, other stocking fillers

We don't go too mad... I'm always falling over toys as it is, and since ours are the only kids in the family, I'm sure they'll do pretty well...

suedonim · 24/10/2003 22:43

I don't usually think about Xmas quite this early but as I've idiotically signed up to have a new kitchen installed in mid December, I think I ought to be organised this year. Ds1 and his DW are coming to stay with us, too, so I feel there is plenty of potential for chaos.....

Anyway, no idea what to get for either of them.

DS2 is getting a dvd player which Boots had on a half price offer last week if you spent more than gbp40. (And then we can claim back ours, which he has nicked off us and taken to his house!)

DD1 (age 16) no idea.

Dd2 (age 7) a basic camera from Boots; the basement for her dolls house, a Princess Jasmine Barbie (cheap at a local shop) and some Baby Annabel clothes.

What do you all give your dh's/dp's? Mine is so awful to buy for, I can never think of anything original. Actually, maybe I'll start another thread on this.

samACon · 25/10/2003 13:21

Dahlia - Girl Heaven sells cheerleader outfits, they have branches in Bromley and Croydon so they must have others around the place.

DS1 (5) - main pressy 2nd hand i-toy for PS2, plus bits and pieces, jigsaws ,art stuff, books etc.

DS2 (3) - 2nd hand gameboy to stop him pinching his brother's. Keyboard from ELC plus stocking stuff like above.

I know that sounds a bit old for them, but thats what they like!! Get it off of me and DH, we have no life!! I know they will get 'toy' toys from everyone else.

fisil · 25/10/2003 14:28

Ds will be one early in Jan. We are getting him nothing for Xmas or b'day. When he is older if he asks what we got him, we will name a toy which he liked! We just don't really see the point, as it is meaningliess to him, and he has loads of stuff anyway. His favourite toy at the moment is an old water bottle with rice in it.

He's got so much stuff, and as Podmog (I think) said, grandparents etc. have a totally different view to us, and so they will get him lots of toys.

We will buy him pressies when he's old enough to appreciate it! (we're not that nasty!)

Angiel · 01/11/2003 21:26

Any suggestions for a present for ds (3) and dd (2)? I just can't think of anything for a main present, I've got their stockings sorted but my mind has now gone blank.

Chinchilla · 01/11/2003 21:31

I have asked M & D to buy ds (2y 3m) a toy garage for Xmas. He is really into cars!

mieow · 01/11/2003 21:44

Dahlia, I had a raggedy ann doll when I was younger I think my mum got rid of her though

anais · 01/11/2003 21:50

I am desperatelt searchinf for a proper, traditional rocking horse for ds and dd to share. Needs to be cheap though, and most of them are between £500-£1500

anais · 01/11/2003 21:51

Eeeek, sorry for the typos

pie · 01/11/2003 22:06

anais, do you mean ones like this , this and this ? Or do you mean the ones that aren't with so much soft stuff and carved?
