The cheaper the better, to feed to adults and 3 kids.

shep pie

harpsiheraldangelssing · 14/12/2005 08:51

spaghetti and meatballs with a sauce of fried
onions, cans of chopped tomatoes and grated cheese on the top

handlemecarefully · 14/12/2005 08:55

Cottage pie - use baked beans to pad it out and that way you won't need so much minced beef.

IsawPussycatmommakissingsanta · 14/12/2005 08:59

make a huge vat of soup! sinch to do....vegetable is cheapest....1 big onion, chopped, soften in a big pan, add chopped carrots/squash/peppers or broccoli/cabbage/watercress (depending on if your kids are green-food phobic or not) add a couple of litres of veg stock , wait till cooked then blend blend blend! (apologies if teaching granny to suck eggs here...my sis wont make her own soup! but so cheap and so filling with plenty of bread!)

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2005 08:59

grated carrot is good as a mince padder too & it's invisible to boot!

veggie bake (leftover spuds/carrots/leeks/peas etc with cheese sauce on top & beans is nice

harpsiheraldangelssing · 14/12/2005 09:01

oh yes good idea about the soup
add jacket potatoes or home made bread topad out
add lentils to EVERYTHING to pad out....

IsawPussycatmommakissingsanta · 14/12/2005 09:15

mmm lentils and sausages, if you fancy a change from potatoes? Butternut squash is a life saver, about 88p at moment for a good size one. peel, and chop, put in a roasting dish with some nutmeg on top. my niece and nephew like it cos its quite sweetly flavoured....add rice or more veggies for a "filling tea". Or what about Tuna pasta bake? cheap!
