Good tips for catching mice???

We have discovered that a family of mice of taken residence in our 'dining room' - well I say dining room but it's really just a storage room at the moment which is probably why they like it! Anyway, we have managed to trap 2 using tasty chunks of Mars Bars as bait. However, this is obviously no longer so alluring as for the past few nights we've had no joy and I did actually see one 'in the flesh' this morning so I know there are definitely still more there!

So - anyone got any good tips of what bait I should be using??

are you using old fashioned wooden traps? They like peanut butter

Ok... you could try chocolate raisin and peanuts bu the best reults I got by putting the traps around the outside of the room (against the skirting board) as they like to run round next to the wall, it makes them feel safe.
If you have a whole family you won't sort them with traps though - call the council and get a quote for someone to come and put some poison down. I know I will ge slated again for saying this but they are really unhygienic (they have no control over their bladders so are basically peeing the whole time.

Choc raisin would also be my recommendation
Or shut a cat in the room for a few hours

One of my colleagues has also mentioned peanut butter - so maybe we'll give that a try tonight. Dh says he's off to buy some more traps - so we'll try that before getting the council in. We're pretty comfortable in that we know they're restricted to one room only - however, do realise how disgusting and unhygenic they are...

It's a good incentive for getting that room completely cleared out though.....been putting it off for ages!!

Agree about the family thing - if you have an established family, often they can breed faster than you can trap them.
If you want to give th etraps another go before calling in proffessional help, try varying the location and bait - squishy choc brownie, squidged onto the paddle so they can?t bat it off is a good one, so is peanut butter - sweet and salty stuff. Don?t bother with cheese - our various tribes of mice have never been into the stuff. We have caught a lot using a lump of bread dipped in honey/golden syrup - messy but successful.
The other thing to consider is how well you cleaned your traps after use (sorry tmi). If they can smell other mousey?s blood or strong smell of disinfectant/cleaner/bleach, it could also put them off. We were told that if a trap was left blood stained to throw it away as they have too accurate sense of smell and will avoid it.
