An elderly gentleman collapsed outside my work and subsiquently stopped breathing, 3 of us have all tried mouth to mouth but he just wasnt breathing.
I am so angry, it took 20 minutes for the ambulance to arrive and i am now watching as they are doing everything they can to save him, but he was already gone when they got there!!!!!
i am so sad and cant stop shaking.
Why were they so long, the poor mans family!!!!!!

Oh you poor thing, the poor man, sounds like he had a heart attack, so close to Christmas as well.

snowfalls · 12/12/2005 12:38

Dont be hard on yourself, it is actually only 3% of patients that can be revived by resusitation

doormat · 12/12/2005 12:40

butty you tried everything
poor man,
are you ok

spruceylucy5 · 12/12/2005 12:40

It is awfully sad but well done for trying. I helped an old man up off the street yesterday, people werent stopping because he'd had a few.

butty · 12/12/2005 13:04

The ambulance has just gone. There was nothing more that they could do for him as he was doing the death rattle before they even got there.
They have said that it more than likely was a major corony attack and when he collapsed he hit his head really bad as well.
The worst thing is that he did not have any ID what so ever on him so dont even know who he is
I am just thinking about his poor family, and that is if he has any???
I hope they can trace him through some way or another.

butty my father died this way many years ago, people nearby helped him but he died, at least there were people with him when he died so from me and probably from the mans family, thank you for trying to help

crimbocrazydazy · 12/12/2005 13:30

oh no how sad, poor you Butty and poor man would hate to think that it was my Grandad, worry every time he goes out of the house as he is so frail yet so independent.

A dear friend of my parents who was also a very dear friend to me when I was an awkward teenager died yesterday (from a stroke). It seems so sad people have to die unexpectedly just before Christmas, but I am sure my dear friend will be in heaven if such a place exists and I pray for your old man too. Very sad.

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 12/12/2005 13:32

Oh and meant to say butty, well done for trying.

butty · 12/12/2005 13:59

Thanks for your messages.
I am feeling a little better now that i have come out of shock, just really feeling for his family and hoping that they get an ID on him soon.
Its hard no matter what time of year but i always think christmas time is the worse.
A lady who helped us to check pulse etc.. has just put some flowers on the side of the pavement where he was thought that was so nice of her.

Butty. Poor you, it is such a terrible shock when you are helping too as you have the adrenaline in your body making you feel rubbish afterwards. I am a first aider at my work and had this with a customer. The paramedics really helped me as they said that he definitely would not have survived if I had done nothing and at least I kept him going for them to give him a chance. They said if they could do nothing then there was no way I could do anything either, but I had helped other people who had seen us at least try to help.

butty · 12/12/2005 16:43

Thanks for you message.
I am really glad that i have done a first aid course as i really wouldnt of had a clue what to do, but even so, i think it was too late anyway so not really much i think anybody could of done to save him.
I'm still hoping that they have found out who he iscant believe he didn't have any ID.
It would be awful for his family worrying about him and not knowing.
