thats it really, just wanted some advice. Washer still working, but wont click on to spin cycle, hence im wringing everything out then bunging it in the dryer, not a good option. Its about 8 years old, first thing which has gone wrong. Do i hunt someone down to repair it, if so how do i find them without them being a cowboy out of the local paper? asked my mum she doesnt know of anyone. dh not that bothered, just said, well its still washing isnt it! MEN! If he did the washing we'd probably be at comet or wherever you buy new washing machines from by now, but no, he never touches the bloody thing so its not his priority! i said we should get someone to look at it, he said whats the point, too expensive and might as well wait until it breaks then buy a new one. DUH!!!!!! is it me, or dont people even want to TRY to repair things any more?? Even if it cost a hundred quid to mend, surely better than spending 4 or 5 hundred on a blummin new one!!!!!!!! GRRRRR to my dh! I know this is very trivial in the grand scheme of things, but i just needed to get it out! i shall go and have a calm down now and a glass of wine. Thanks to anyone whos bothered to read it! What to do though - repair or replace?

Have you emptied the filters?
Mine has an intermittent issue with spin and last time a load of junk had clogged the filter so it wouldn't drain

Enjoy the wine

Do you have the instruction book. tehr eis normally a list of approved service companies, fro different areas. If not , identify the brand and perhaps someone could check theirs for a recomended one in your area.

We faced a simialr dilemma last week with our 15yr old Zanussi wm which wasn't heating the water. Already had the repairman (from handbook, does other brands too) replace the thermostat - £65, of which about £40 was call-out charge - and he discovered our Surpump (?!) had seized so he has to come back and fit a new one - £ ? - next week.

Was this the first time it has happened? if so the load may have been to heavy, try spinning again with washer empty.

As Blondeinlondon says, the filter being blocked can cause this - it does in ours.

I also gather the bearings going can cause this, too.

We had ok experiences with a repair company online, but the best is always someone locally recommended ...

HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRAH!!!!! spin cycle has been revived! at the cost of only £8 too so I am deleriously happy. dh had a bit of a moan to his bro-in-law who immediatly said " its the brushes mate" ........went to little out of way repair shop, bought said part, dh and bro in law fixed within half an hour! i am a happy girl again So all you ladies out there, if its the spin cycle, it might be this. our machine is a hotpoint and apparently is quite common but as you can see, v.easy to fix if you know whats what. They attatch to the motor or something. I know i am quite a saddo for posting all this but you know, a word to the wise and all that, i could go all saintly, but if your washer breaks , you may just recall reading this, and it might save the life of your machine
