have been pondering this after seeing someone mention mid-morning snacks.
it seems like i am always feeding ds..
he has:
milk
a BIG bowl of porridge for breakfast (easily as much as i would eat)
milk
dinner and pudding (again good amounts)
milk
tea and pudding
milk

but just recently he has been getting really grumpy and wanting his milk sooner, although he doesn't finish it all and then wanting his next meal sooner...
so wondering if i ought to be giving him a snack AND milk between meals?

he doesn't really eat anything between meals, unless I am having something and he begs a bit!

I would cut out one of the milks and add a snack... Jess would have a rusk or fruit mid morning.

that's what i am thinking... fill him up a bit more than the milk maybe. i might offer him the milk in a cup in case he still wants some

Its worth a try, does he drink water or juice? I would give Milk, Breakfast, Snack with water/juice and then milk if he really wants it and then carry on from lunch time as normal.

Jess is 16 months now and still likes her morning snack.

yeah he has juice in his cup throughout the day...

just worried he won't get enough milk if i cut that one out completely... although i guess he gets plenty on his breakfast

dd2 aged 10 months has about the same, plus a bottle in the middle of the night again now She seemed to never stop eating yeterday!

I also give her milk at 6ish, porridge at 8ish and then she munches toast or rice cakes when we get back from School run!

She sure likes her grub! I think they go through hungry stages.

Witchycat · 08/12/2005 20:25

DD is just 11 months but the following hasn't changed for the last few months:

Breakfast = half a weetabix, half a banana and milk to mush it all togethe
Lunch = veg/pasta/cheesy sauce type thing - probably equivalent to a 7month+ jar. Sometimes pudding.
Tea = Same as lunch really (size wise)
Plus 4 x 6oz bottles milk (approx 10am, 2pm, 6.30pm and last one anywhere from 10pm to 1am - she's starting to miss this one out sometimes)

Similar to you by the sound of it - also no snacks but she always 'scrounges' some of whatever we're eating.

followthestarlover · 08/12/2005 20:26

that sounds similar to ds witchycat! although we have just put the bottles down to 5oz a time because he wasn't drinking it all...

I started cutting the last milk bottle down to see if she'd get used to smaller amounts & then give it up but she's teething and has a cold so this week she's a nightmare.

They don't need so much milk after 12 months though so I think we'll drop one of the day time feeds altogether soon and see what happens.

ANyone know how much they're supposed to need after 12 months?

we had just started to offer snacks at 11am/3pm before the milk, with a view to replacing it at some point, but then he's ill now so back to square one!

followthestarlover · 08/12/2005 20:48

hmm well we shall try a snack before his mid-morning bottle. and then the milk in a cup i think.... see how that goes!
