Do you wrap stocking fillers before you put them in?

OComeOliveFaithfOil · 07/12/2005 14:20

Or do they just get shoved in?

Also, is the empty stocking left on the end of the bed and a big thing made of it 'oooooh will it be full in the morning? etc' or do you just sneak in quietly in the night and leave the full one there?

Satsumas would be a bit superfluous with our two. I suppose they could lob them at each other?

puddle · 07/12/2005 14:52

yes, may not wrap chocs this year!

DinosaurInAManger · 07/12/2005 14:56

We don't wrap any of things that are from Santa, only the ones that are from Mummy & Daddy.

IlanaK · 07/12/2005 14:57

We wrapped last year, but this year decided not too. Its too much trouble really and as they are little, there is too much wrapping to get off.

philippat · 07/12/2005 15:02

definitely wrap (for my enjoyment as much as dd's). Remember my dad used to carefully save xmas paper after we unwrapped pressies and it would get used in stocking year after year

jenkel · 07/12/2005 15:02

I do same as binkie, wrap in tissue paper, no sellotape.

PickasillyChristmasName · 07/12/2005 15:05

Wrapping paper on them definitely. Except for the satsuma.

As my sister and I had old stockings of my gran's, my mum and dad were able to fill a similar one and then swop them over.

Bozza · 07/12/2005 15:14

I used to put a satsuma in DS's stocking and then when he got it out and started tucking into the chocolate, just stick it back in the fruit bowl.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2005 15:44

Wrap everything!

Sack's left by the fireplace downstairs, complete with biscuits and Favourite Drink of the Moment. I have sooo many memories of me and my brothers still being awake at 2am waiting for Santa in our rooms that I''m not prepared to do that myself!!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2005 15:44

Aaaaah! sacks. No apostrophe.

DinosaurInAManger · 07/12/2005 15:53

I justify non-wrapping on the grounds of

  1. tradition - ours weren't wrapped when we were kids

  2. greenness - all that wasted paper!

fruitful · 07/12/2005 16:15

Dd's gets wrapped cos unwrapping is still at least half of the fun (she is 3).

Dh's get wrapped as he would be distraught if not.

Ds's is not going to get wrapped as he can't yet get the paper off himself (10mo). Going to stuff some scrunched up wrapping paper in the top so he has still got some to play with. Then he can just pull all the little toys out.

I think mine will be wrapped.

Not sure where we will put them as we'll be at MIL's. We're all going to open them together in our bed though.

Wrapped in tissue paper. The longer it takes to open them, the longer I get in bed in the morning .

The stockings go on the beds and then I have to sneak them out of the room, fill them and sneak them back in. Not easy as we bought dd a 'posh' one at a craft fair and didn't realise until we got home that it had bells on! If I cut them off dd is bound to notice.

MarsyChristmas · 07/12/2005 18:02

Yes!

BournemouthBaubleBabe · 07/12/2005 18:20

We wrap - ds doesn't do satsumas either so it might be a banana or apple!

doesn't do brown chocolate either - does anyone know if you can get WHITE chocolate coins???

IOTAnnenbaum · 07/12/2005 18:22

white choc coins in Tescos - -silver wrapper

rockinrobinkie · 07/12/2005 18:48

Whittards was doing white choc coins last year - or was it Thorntons? Or Superdrug? Or even Starbucks? Try 'em all. I know I have seen them.

hana · 07/12/2005 19:00

twirlingaroundthechristmastree · 07/12/2005 19:02

No wrapping - how would Santa have time for that?

Avalon · 07/12/2005 19:22

I don't wrap stocking fillers now. Takes too long and too fiddly if the stuff is small.
Tried it once and it took ages and, of course, I was doing it on Christmas Eve!

BournemouthBaubleBabe · 07/12/2005 19:34

Thanks for the replies about white choccies!

Now - would anyone mind giving a list of what actually goes IN their child's stockings?

  1. satsuma
  2. chocolate coins
  3. ?
  4. ? etc

I suppose it depends on age of child/size of stocking, but I'm curious!

rockinrobinkie · 07/12/2005 19:52

dd (who is just five) is getting:

  • a My Secret Unicorn letter kit (for a head start on the thankyous)
  • a copy of Gobbolino the Witch's Cat
  • a T-shirt with kittens on it
  • cots and a pram for some Sylvanian Family mouse babies
  • a tangerine
  • a shiny £2
  • a jelly lolly

ds (who is six and a half) is getting:

  • his first copy of Aquila magazine + free book "How to Do Science in The Bathroom"
  • a notebook to write music in (he asked)
  • music-themed stationery to go with the above (pencil/rubber/ruler)
  • maybe some Just William books

  • £2
  • a jelly lolly

Might add some more stationery items.

Pack of Thomas stickers
Bag of chocolate santas
Book (M&S first readers - the traditional ones)
Book token for £5 (Roisin's idea - I'm going to take them to Waterstones over the break and let them explore the books and choose one to buy -they'll love it!)
