For people without a cleaner - how long do you spend cleaning your house?

And I don't mean general tidying up. I mean bathroom, toilet, floors, skirting boards etc.

How long in one go and how regular?

Am looking for some timesaving tips now I have a bigger house!

Probably about 3 hours a week on proper cleaning. Add another 3 hours a week for general laundry and tidying up duties.

I wouldn't want a cleaner, some stranger in my house, no thank you.

I don't have a routine as such, just try and keep on top of things on my days off (mon & fri). But dd1 has recently dropped her nap and I don't want to be doing housework when she wants to play.

Sweep most days (b*stard wooden floors), mop when I remember, ditto dusting. Kitchen and bathrooms are always kept spotless as I hate these being mucky (pet hate).

Washing is done every day, tons of it.

OComeOliveFaithfOil · 06/12/2005 11:27

lol at my wishfull thinking that I need an extra s on bathroom

Tortington · 06/12/2005 11:31

when people come visit - we dont get a lot of visitors - so we are happy in our own shit - like pigs

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 06/12/2005 11:33

Can believe how much cleaning you all do - I think our house is generally clean and tidy but I'm not aware of cleaning being a real issue or a task that I really notice.
Hoovering - probably once a week at the most (unless there has been a spillage or something) or when the carpets are starting to look in need.
Dusting - just whenever I notice the dust starting to pile up!
Kitchen - surfaces and sink are kept clean as we go along.
Bathroom - kept clean as we go along/wiped down every day
Laundry - just shove a load in the washer and then into the dryer as and when required. No hassle, not really a job as such in my book.
Kitchen/bathroom floors - usually mopped thoroughly just before we have guests - otherwise I just give them a selective wipe when they look dirty.

OO - funny that, last night I was discussing it with dh and when it came down to it that's what I said adn felt - just couldn't have someone else in my house doing the housework. Especially as I'm here most of the time.

Will just have to get on with it!

HaveYourselfaMerryMrsBadger · 06/12/2005 11:46

I wipe the bathroom every morning, DH wipes the kitchen every night.

Apart from that, one thing a day, and only one thing, eg
Monday: feather duster
Tuesday: empty bins & kitchen floor
Wednesday: hoover upstairs
Thursday: hoover downstairs
Friday: change beds
Saturday: proper bathroom clean
Sunday: tidy up!

Laundry goes on every night, iron one shirt a day in front of telly before bed.

People without a cleaner??! Surely we all have cleaners!!!

JESSnutsRoastinOnAnOpenFire · 06/12/2005 11:50

(PMSL at my own joke! ) I wanted to just leave that, and wait for people to get all irate, but I couldn't! Ha bloody ha.. I have never had a cleaner.. unlikely that I ever will.. and used to BE a cleaner!

Nightynight · 06/12/2005 12:28

jess - I read the title to mean a vacuum cleaner. Ive got one of those, recently.

HappyDaddy · 06/12/2005 14:40

My bath gets done everytime it's used.

Bozza · 06/12/2005 15:40

Iam a bit at how much time you lot spend doing the laundry when you don't even iron and use the tumble dryer. Actually find that one hard to quantify because it is in 5 minutes here and there but we also iron most things.

puff · 06/12/2005 15:43

I have no idea

collision · 06/12/2005 16:06

Bozza...what do you iron?

Truthfully.

And please dont tell me that you iron sheets and towels!

gggimmesnowsnow · 06/12/2005 16:24

OliveOil - you sound like my dh....

PickasillyChristmasName · 06/12/2005 16:24

You're supposed to clean skirting boards

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 06/12/2005 16:26

Oh yes, a good damp dust twice a week should be the bare minimum

MarsyChristmas · 06/12/2005 16:34

oops..... wrong thread! lol

PickasillyChristmasName · 06/12/2005 16:35

Right, now I understand

Bozza · 06/12/2005 16:38

I used to iron towels until I had my second child and realised something had to give. But that took no time really. I iron shirts, blouses, jumpers (except the kid's fleecy ones), trousers inc. jeans, t-shirts, pjs, dresses etc. ie most outer clothing. DH does about 30% of the ironing. Normally I start and iron until I have had enough or the end of Coronation Street and then he takes over. I have to do DD's dresses etc though!

Tortington · 06/12/2005 17:14

no ironing its wrong i tell thee wrong

puddingandpie · 06/12/2005 17:40

Not long enough. like the idea of 15 minute timer!?! So when do you all get time to go on mumsnet!?!

nailpolishesvag · 06/12/2005 17:50

at leasta nhour every day
including washing more like two

Bozza · 06/12/2005 19:35

misdee · 06/12/2005 19:36
