What did you do for fun pre-parenthood?
Do you do the same things now?

All my pre-baby fun seems incompatible with my post-baby life... dunno what to try

Pre - went out to gigs, comedy, ate out, theatre, cinema, yoga, circuit training.
Post - have people round for dinner, go to see short films, yoga, mumsnet and red wine

ooo you've made me realise how my life has changed...
pre - parties or clubbing most weekends; meals out, visiting friends...
post - watching cbeebies, the occasional takeaway and sleeping zzzz...

elastamum · 05/12/2005 20:42

Went riding, sailed, skied, had dinner parties, stayed up late

now

Riding (still , look after kids whilst DH sails, skiing (mostly with kids) dinner parties sometimes, collapse in heap in evenings

fisiltoe · 05/12/2005 20:44

before: pubs, eating out, reading papers, lie ins, evening courses

now: see friends for coffee, curry, read, talk with dp about how wonderful our children are

Pre - was a volunteer lifeguard, went surfing, messed around at the beach, weekends away with lifeguard friends, ate at the pub a lot and got outrageously drunk a lot.

Post - play on the beach with dd, watch the surfers while paddling with dd, go home, cook and go on mumsnet with a glass of wine. Still manage to get outrageously drunk occasionally but on a lot less alcohol these days.

expatinscotland · 05/12/2005 20:53

Pre - climb peaks, climb cliffs, ski, practice Bikram yoga, go the the gym. Cinema, theatre, ballet, restaurants, wine tastings, travel

Post - parks, cafes, Pilates, walks, wine, baking and cooking, listen to lots of music, read loads

Frostythesurfmum · 05/12/2005 20:53

I forgot about the tap dancing. It's a real laugh and good exercise too. What about a dance class?

colditz · 05/12/2005 21:00

Pre child and pregnancy - clubbing, disappearing halfway across country, getting falling down drunk, reading a good book, phoning in sick at work and going to Skegness instead, not coming home, riding my motorbike.

Post child and pregnant - wander round market, get takeaway, read good book.

dot1 · 05/12/2005 21:20

Pre - got pissed

Now - go to the gym

sigh...

thecattleareALOHing · 05/12/2005 21:29

I used to have lots of fun (the usual drink, film previews, parties, premieres, travel, weekends away, posh hotels, sleep, clothes etc etc), but now have hardly any. But I am so much happier! How's that for a paradox, eh?
I think fun is overrated and satisfaction is underrated.

Blondeinlondon · 06/12/2005 15:07

fun for me now is reading heat magazine

pre - getting pissed/stoned, going to parties, going clubbing, going to gigs, travelling to weird places at short notice, being spontaneous, snowboarding, kitesurfing, sleeping in, having sex any time of the day we wanted

post - getting pissed at home, watching telly & ordering takeaway. kitesurfing & snowboarding after military-style planning, walking the dog, having a nap at weekends when the baby naps
sighs heavily and realises she is old

handlemecarefully · 06/12/2005 15:23

*Went to the gym lots
*Meals out 2 or 3 times per week
*Cinema on cold wintry Sundays for a matinee performance followed by cappuchinos and the newspaper in a coffee shop
*Holidays were rather more exotic and far flung
*Went to lots of fringe theatre
*Art galleries

Now: meal out once per fortnight, still manage to run frequently. We watch sky box office movies at home. Holidays are more likely to be Centreparcs or Eurodisney than Sri Lanka. But we have found unexpected pleasures in going to the park / zoo etc!
