Who else uses on line DVD rentals?

We've recently started doing this (as we always seemed to be paying more in fines at Blockbuster than we were in renting the DVDs, plus the shops don't have that many titles and also smell of feet).

I am finding it very exciting - logging on and seeing what we will get next .

we use to do this but found it a nightmare when renting series as they kept sending - episode 6 when we'd only seen episode 1

GoodKingWhimsylas · 05/12/2005 17:02

We signed up to one, cancelled it though as we never got chance to wacth any films. The only ones we did watch were the kids ones!
Agree they are a very good idea and will probably join again when we have the time to watch

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 05/12/2005 17:06

I'm just about to check one out because I've just recieved a voucher for 6 free dvd rentals. The site is www.screenselect.co.uk and code is TRUDES if anyone is interested.

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 05/12/2005 17:09

The promotion isn't so great, you would have got 5 free dvd's anyway without the code.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 05/12/2005 17:23

Fairydust, I've just tried out screenselect and they send out the DVDs for a series in order - there's a "dispatch this title in order" option although why you'd want it in any other order is beyond me.

Have just cancelled though because I wasn't wathcing enough.

PruniStuffing · 05/12/2005 17:26

I've got lovefilm - I really love it. I'm aware that it's not the cheapest but it has the best website.

We rip the dvds of e.g. 24 and then watch them in the right order.

I do watch a lot of films so it's ended up being great value. Especially good for those films that you've always meant to see but wouldn't go out of your way to pay £3.00 at the video shop.

Epiffany · 05/12/2005 17:29

screen select is good, we found blockbuster dvds were in really bad nick, scratched and all sorts.

theBomperandtheIvy · 05/12/2005 17:30

We use Tesco's DVD on line rentals - It's only £7 a month and has been excellent!!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 05/12/2005 17:31

Hmm... I had 2 dodgy disks from Screenselect out of 14 rentals and several more that needed a damn good clean before they'd play.

Kelly1978 · 05/12/2005 17:35

I've used msot of them, we get teh special offers then cancel and wait for some mroe special offers. Love film are often doing three months for the price of two. It's rather frustrating as they seem to take forever to send them out.

bettys · 05/12/2005 18:02

We use Amazon - it's only £5.99 for 3 a month & they're very quick.

cupcakesbakingonanopenfire · 05/12/2005 18:15

We use the same amazon service. At the moment we are so behind. We still haven't watched our 3rd dvd from last month and have another 3 to order by the 23rd!

MrsBadger · 05/12/2005 18:17

We get 6 a month for £10 from Amazon and hardly watch live tv anymore.
They dispatch series one disc at a time in the order you specify. We intersperse them with films so we don't get West Wing overload.
DH controls the list though, so he knows what's coming and I get a surprise (I have to request chickflicks in advance else he shunts them to the bottom of the list and we never get to see them)
The best thing is you can add stuff that isn't released yet so you get it the minute it comes out - Star Wars III came the morning it was released and DH was v pleased

cupcakesbakingonanopenfire · 05/12/2005 18:20

and another great thing about amazon is that you get 10% off all dvd purchases - very useful at Christmas.

bosscatsroastingonanopenfire · 05/12/2005 18:22

so do you reckon amazon is the best then? I really fancy signing up to one, especially over xmas when there is loads of pap on

hana · 05/12/2005 18:27

we have tescos, haven't had any problems but their selection isn't the greatest

TroutSprout · 05/12/2005 22:08

We use tesco...it's fine for us as we are still sort of catching up on 8 years worth of films...but someone else might find the selection a bit slow off the mark

TroutSprout · 05/12/2005 22:10

Tesco is only 7 quid something a month too (for 1 at a time) and turnaround is fast at usually see 6-7 a month. So pretty cheap
