Just can't cost a lot of money but I would like it to be special. His birthday is just after Christmas. I have a dvd for him already. Am already organising a party for him. Oh, and things haven't been particularly good between us recently so a night of sha**ing and romance isn't likely. Any thoughts?

What's he like?

I gave mine a really nice blanket-throw thing (a cashmere one) so that he can read science fiction into the small hours without freezing.

Cadeauxbury · 05/12/2005 11:12

well, he works too hard, is away from home a fair bit, he likes science fiction books too. enjoys bill bailey (commedien) and all sorts of other stuff. works in medical charity sector. doesn't do sport.

So ... should be something that doesn't take up time ('cos he hasn't got any) & can take with him when he's travelling? Ipod an uninspired suggestion, I know, but can be made more special if you pre-programme it with things he might like (inc. SF audiobook things or live comedy performance). Or is that over budget?

ipod shuffle? They aren't too expensive ( well £65 ish) that's what my dh is getting for his 40th in Feb!

Cadeauxbury · 05/12/2005 11:33

Ipod may well be out of my range, unless, I come into money between now and then but I'm sure he'd love one.

Hi there

When DP was 30 I bought him 30 gifts from me and DS.

Most of them were silly little things like a pair of joke socks (if you only give him 1 wrapped sock in the morning he will spend the rest of the day wondering where the other one is and what is going on) and boxers from DS, a book he wanted etc. With a couple of slightly bigger things and one main present that was a couple of hundred pounds (obviously you don't have to spend that much if you can't).

We spread out giving them to him over the whole day so that he just got given things randomly throughout the day.

Maybe some masculine essential oils/scented candles in the bathroom with a beer/glass of favourite tipple and a do not disturb door sign so he can have a nice relaxed pampered bath at the end of the day.

Thanks, I like the 40 pressies idea. They might have to be very small ones though. Have also used up all "small pressies" ideas for his stocking at Christmas though. Will have a think.

It's my dp's birthday on Fri and I've bought a mp3 player from Asda (£15) and have downloaded all his favourite songs (free!!!)
to put on it.

I've never downloaded before and it's easy peasy, in fact I'm going to buy an mp3 player for myself

spruceylucy5 · 05/12/2005 19:32

I often do shoe box pressies. I did one for my sister with all the sweets she liked as a kid. Ive done a smellies one for my mum with loads of bits and bobs from super drug. Once you get into the idea of filling the shoe box you can find loads of little bit in places like wilkos, superdrug etc.

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 05/12/2005 19:32

When we were still all lovey dovey and made an effort for each others birthdays I bought dh loads of little pressies and did a treasure hunt for him round the house and garden.

Cadeauxbury · 06/12/2005 14:50

thanks everyone. just seen this. defo going to check out the mp3 player. he'd love that but i thought they were so expensive!

MIGHT DO A BOX IDEA FROM THE KIDS.

sorry about the typing - ds is sitting on my left hand.

Hey Cad, if you do get an MP3 player from Asda, you need an AAA battery! DP's birthday today, but no bl88dy battery. Whoops

puddingandpie · 08/12/2005 12:20

An ipod went down well with my hubby on his 40th he was sent away on detachment on his actually 40th birthday so it was awful for him. firstly being sent away plus it is over Christmas as well not good luck eh! Someone was sick so he was called forward. But the ipod makes him feel younger all up to date with latest music thing and he has gotten back into listening to music which relaxes him. There are special offers about. If he is anything like my husband wants no fuss but you feel you have to do something. Good luck

Cadeauxbury · 08/12/2005 13:30

Thanks RTL - very worth remembering!

P&P - the ipod shuffle is looking good if I can find the funds without him noticing - he has suggested it as a dream item

Cad, have serioulsy changed my mind about mp3/ipod, spent Sat without any help from dp as he spent the day downloading songs and couldn't 'hear' me when I asked him for help, as he had his headphones in

"Could you change the ds2's nappy, please as I'm feeding dd"

"Could you change the ds2's nappy, please as I'm feeding dd"

"Could you change the ds2's nappy, please as I'm feeding dd"

"Could you change the ds2's nappy, please as I'm feeding dd"

"COULD YOU CHANGE THE BL**DY NAPPY PLEASE"

"Oh forget it, I'll do it myself"
