Well, I know it sounds a bit worthy, but for £6 you can provide meals for over 100 children via Oxfam gifts - so I'm giving the dds' teachers certificates saying I have bought them in their name.

I blame Jamie Oliver

Glitterygook · 01/12/2005 17:36

Hmmm, a good idea for a present but I'm not sure my 4 yr old would understand this and the gift is from him.

I give wine

and the dds make them a little card each saying how much they have enjoyed school yada yada yada

Big tin of ginger biscuits from Ikea for teacher and a packet of their gingerbread heart decorations for the teaching assistant.

Some Avon bubble bath and linen spray - total of about 3.50 each. I've gone into agonies over this before - it's not worth the angst.

It's just a token gift and as dd gets older (now 7) I sense the teachers 'withdrawing' a bit from being super friendly and motherly, to more distanced and professional, which is ok I guess and inevitable as she grows up, but means I don't get to know them so well.

usually it's wine, but this year, its some very nice shower gel and bubble bath which I bought in last years January sales, reduce from £20 to a fiver.

This year we've been making painted ceramic gifts for most people.
My DS's(same class) have painted a mug for their teacher and we've filled it with Thornton's chocs.

roisin · 01/12/2005 18:14

wine from us every time
DS2 usually 'creates' something as well time-permitting, usually something perishable!

we have to get pressies for the teachers??

My boys both go to nursery and there are loads of teachers there - about 6 in each unit

do they get one each, or between them?

lovely ceramic bowl/mug and filling it with home made white chocolate fudge or rocky road.

recipes here

Tamba - when dd1 was in nursery - I bought a little somthing for the main carer/person assigned to her and then something for the others to share - chiocs, luxury biscuits or something like that.

WHen there were three of them - little bath products for them - about 5 quid each they were from Boots.

[little hijack here - apols]

(Eidsvold, I have a quick question for you over on Cod's anti-Xmas name thread)here

At my kids' school this year they are asking that instead of the kids giving cards to their friends and pressies to the teachers they give money instead, and it all goes to Oxfam to buy donkeys in Africa. Apparently for every £50 they can buy a donkey and they have already bought 2. They have a 'donkeyometer' on the wall which shows how well they are doing. Nice idea I thought.

peckarollover · 01/12/2005 22:46
