round this way - just been scouring the local letting agents websites asnd they're all either 1 bedroom apartments (bedsits LOL), or 2/3/4 bedroom houses "no children" arghhhh - or there's that really stunning 6 bedroom (indoor pool!) dorma bungalow not far from us at a mere £2000 a month

All there is here is flats. I feel your pain!

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 19:51

We don't mind a flat - as long as we've got two bedrooms (we have a 3 bedroom house - but the boys share), a lounge, kitchen and bathroom we're not fussy - plenty of parks to take them too for running around - and it's a good excuse to get out the house (flat?) too if there's no garden to chuck them in.

Still quite fancy that bungalow.......

where are you? there's not much around here in north london either.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:22

We're in Wellingborough - and we need to stay in the town - as I don't drive - and I work nights (mind you not sure why I'm saying that - there's even less in the villages around us LOL).

We rent 'full market value' from a housing association. So many of us in these buildings do, we wonder if there are any tenants in these two properties who are not 'full market' tenants.

What we like is a) this is an assured tenancy - so there's no buy-to-let landlord who's going to decide to sell up in 6 months and that's you out a home b) rent stays stable c) maintenance is a dream! just phone up the repair company who has a contract w/the association d) has a private car park instead of a garden. keeps the car insurance down.

We just went directly to the association and asked if they did 'full market'.

Any chance of there being an association around your area?

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 20:28

Oh, the other nice bit is that the landlord has power to evict troublesome tenants quite easily, unlike the council. No loud music, dogs, fights, shouting, smoking, etc. And children welcome.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:33

oh god I doubt it - got sod all round here (not sure why I love this town so much - it really is the pits LOL). Our car insurance is pretty low anyhow - even with onstreet parking. When DH gets back from work I'm going to pop down the shop and see if they've got any papers left - it's the property one today so we'll be able to have a good look at what's available.

Was feeling really sh*tty about this earlier I aboslutely adore this house - when it came on the market while we were house hunting it was like a dream come true, lovely spacious rooms, near to school, church, nursery, town, nicer area etc etc. Then added to the fact that I'm facing the propsect of having to sell my piano - sounds daft I know but it's more gut wrenching thinking I'm not going to have a piano of anysorts, than the prospect of finding ourselves off the property ladder again.

  • but feeling a bit more positive now - still time for miracles to happen - and if they don't - well at least I probably won't be sat in a freezing cold bedroom using the computer LOL.

at "no children"

yet another symptom of relaxing the law for landlords to the point where people can and do "invest" for a very short amount of time and completely ignore the fact that it´ll be somebody's home. I hate it.

will stop there before this post becomes a quasi-communist rant-o-rama.

sympathy, qoq.

PeachyPlumFairy · 30/11/2005 20:35

It's worth approaching the people letting the houses directly, well behaved kids (do they exist???) and pets are often welcome, but only if approach it that way. All of our rented houses were no pets, and we just called and it was fine. Worth a go at least.

there are lots of good folk down here off that ladder, qoq

about the piano

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:36

PPF - knowing my DS2 I'm not sure I could honestly keep a straight face while asking if my "well behaved" children would be ok...........he's a little imp - and is into crayons and pens at the moment.........

OP posts:
HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:39

kama - I know we won't find one quite like this one - it's a spacious 3 bedroom end of terrace - next to (literally) the school, across the road from church, 10 minutes walk from my work, 5 minutes walk from the nursery DS2 will be going to - most of the places I've seen are across the other side of town - which will be a sodding nightmare - and even if I don't sell my piano now - probably would have to sell it (and loads of our other stuff) just to squeeze us into a 2 bedroom flat.

There is a 2 bed split level masionette above shops in the town centre on Rightmove QofQ, is that any good ??

Only thing they don't accept is pets i think.

NutcrackingXmas · 30/11/2005 20:46

NutcrackingXmas · 30/11/2005 20:47

www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-4646996.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=rent

Might be best to cut and paste, my links to them never seem to work.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:48

hmm doesn't look bad - be hellish noisy though - on the high street (know it says silver street but same road just changes name in the middle) - what you can't see on that picture is the pubs on either side of the shops, and it's all one way around town - so whenever the police are called out to the 3 rough estates in town they go straight up there (nice and close to Morrisons though LOL)

I know I know I know - we can't really afford to be fussy but..........

OP posts:
NutcrackingXmas · 30/11/2005 20:49

Oh no thats crap then, bugger.

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 20:49

'- but feeling a bit more positive now - still time for miracles to happen '

Still time indeed! Anything's possible! Am routing for you all. Wish I could help more.

PeachyPlumFairy · 30/11/2005 20:50

Listen if I can convince them my demonic trio are angelic then anyone can! . Dh just goes on about how I want to be an RE Teacher and used to work for a kids charity. yes, that makes up about 10% of my character. the rest involves flying plates, glue everywhere, an inability to tidy up and the ability to destroy any house within ten minutes flat. He never mentions he'll be fire starting with his gas soldering in the shed either. funny that.

And my one smart work suit from days gone by always come out when I pop into the agents shops for info.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:50

yeah - we're not quite than desperate (yet) - and I think you can probably see McDonalds from the window.......can you imagine my two boys.....
