A question to anyone whose baby slept in a Grobag/Baby Sleeping Bag!!

Dd2 sleeps in one of these and has done since she was tiny. Have just bought her an 18-36 month size, but have been wondering about what will happen when she goes in to a bed (which will probably be in the next 6 months or so).
How did your children cope with a duvet or blankets for the first time? Did you encounter any problems? My dd moves around A LOT in her cot, and I often find her facing the opposite way round to how I left her in the morning. I just wonder if she will get all tangled up in a duvet or lose it completely in the night and get cold. I never used them with ds and dd1 so they were used to duvets/blankets already.

I kept my dt's in their grobags on their beds to start with, along with bed guards to stop them falling off. Then after about 8 weeks, we had a shopping trip to choose duvet covers, etc, and they were happy to make the switch. They end up in extraordinary heaps during the night, but like feeling grown up. Also ditched the bed guards after a month or so in duvets. hth

Hi Bomper, I've used sleeping bags for all four of my children. I never found any problem changing to duvets when they moved into their beds. The only thing I did, (because I didn't want them to get cold and wake up) was to buy them fleecy sleepsuits/pj's and tuck them in!! I never had any problems - if it gets really cold I used to put a small portable electric radiator on low in their room! HTH

Forgot to mention, bedguards were used for quite a long time because she moved around so much!

Thanks for your replies. That sounds like a good idea Milge, to keep her in her sleeping bag until she gets used to the bed. I'll deffo try that.

I used to (and still do with dd2) tuck the duvet in under the matress at the bottom of the bed. Theyhave small junior beds so it works in two ways 1) keeps it on the bed, and 2) stops it being too big for the bed. I also used to tuck it in down the side when they first went into a bed.

Browny - dd1 still has a bed guard and she is nearly 6 . Every time we try taking it off or we are on holiday and forget to take it with us she falls out of bed!!!

Has she got room for a double bed in her room - either that or put her matress on the floor lol

Same here. DS went into new bed in grobag, with bedguard and duvet draped over the bottom of the bed. He liked the idea of having the duvet but not the reality of it for a few months. Then one night DD tucked him up under the duvet and he wanted to stay under it. His grobag was draped down the end of the bed. In the morning he was still pretty much under the duvet but had retrieved the grobag and was snuggled next to it. After that he was fine without it but still quite wriggly round the bed. The bedguard is set to be a feature for the foreseeable future.

my dd1 still sleeps in her gro bag in winter (3yo) she tends to kick the covers off and ends up chilly. she has been in a bed for 1 1/2yrs but she is a very restless sleeper....

Mine slept in bags and then went to beds with duvets no prob. Never even thought of it being a prob! My DD2 still has bedguard too and she is nearly 6. Otherwise we hear, BUMP, and find her on the floor! or under the bed! either awake and looking very confused or fast asleep!

dd had sleeping bag till about a month before moving into a bed, so she got used to duvet in cot so it didn't fall off. seemed to work OK. She was 2 years 3 months when she moved to a bed.

ds is still in cot and still in sleeping bag at moment. He has had a quilt for his daytime sleep for about a month (in his cot). After christmas when he is 2 years and 3 months I will move him to a bed.

Never bothered with bed guards. Just put a load of spare pillows, cushions, quilts onthe flor so that when they did fall out fo their low cot beds it din't hurt too much. DD only fell out a couple of times - she soon learnt!

DS does several laps of his cot every night so I'm planning on keeping him in sleeping bags til next summer when hes 2. Might then move onto duvet.
With DD, when she moved into a bed, we put the duvet on sideways so the ends could be tucked under the mattress. She used to move around lots too so this held the duvet on for a bit longer.

There is a product that you can get from some children's catalogues that helps clip the duvet to the sheet on the mattress so that it doesn't fall off. Unfortunately, I can't recall which catalogue! Sorry.
