what would you do? just sort of waving at you from the cash bit, the person who last used it was clearly a f/w and just left it there...

I would love to spend it all very quickly but I think in reality I would hand it in and be chuffed with myself for doing it after I got so burnt last time

Years ago I was a broke student going xmas shopping on a budget of about £3 per person, I found a purse wodged with cash £400 ish quid was so thrilled I nearly wet myself and was about to have a spree and treat my family when I saw some photos and I just couldn't do it.

I took it to the local police station to hand it in, when I cam out a policeman fined me for parking illegally and the woman whos purse it was didn't even ring me to say thanks, miserable cow. Look what being good gets you

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 16:52

Yeah but you'll go to heaven dingdong

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 28/11/2005 16:52

LOL chloe, you reckon?

expatinscotland · 28/11/2005 16:54

I never have £100 to w/draw at any time.

puff · 28/11/2005 16:57

I did this the week after my Mum died, withdrawing money for funeral flowers. I left £250 at a cashpoint and just walked off without taking it.

When I realised (got to florist) I went to pieces, completely hysterical. The ladies in there were so good to me, sat me down with a cup of tea, calmed me down etc. The cashpoint was at the side of a bank and the florists phoned them for me on the offchance the money had been handed it - lucky for me, some wonderful person had taken it into the bank, together with the cashpoint receipt I'd also left . They were great with me too and gave me back the money, I just needed to show them ID.

gloriainexcHELSIsdeo · 28/11/2005 16:59

Its a good job I haven't found £100 then isn't it?

(goodness me I must be the worst person on the whole of MN - or the most honest!! ) - but then again I usually am!

gloriainexcHELSIsdeo · 28/11/2005 16:59

worst that is not honest!

Lonelymum · 28/11/2005 17:03

Oh I am sorry to say that money is so tight right now, I would probably take it. Well, no probably about it. I know that is the wrong answer, but it is the truthful one.

piffle · 28/11/2005 17:04

you leave it and the machine takes it back after 10 seconds. Or hand it in, no matter how broke I was I'd never take it like that, if I found it lying in the street I'd be tempted, cashpoints have cameras, you'd get done 9 out of ten times too.

piffle · 28/11/2005 17:05

hatstand go into the bank and report it, the machine may have taken it back in, this happened to me, the money comes back to you after a week. but you have to report it.

foxinsocks · 28/11/2005 17:07

dh has left money at a cashpoint on more than one occasion (may even be more but he's too shit scared to tell me!).

We've never got it back but no matter how dire my financial straits were, I wouldn't take someone else's cash (and they would probably see you doing it on CCTV anyway!).

vickiyumyum · 28/11/2005 17:10

if it ios sticking out of the cash point after a while it takes it b\ack in and credits the persons account again, whereas if you take it potentially that person has lost that money. i would probably stand ther and wait a couple of minutes for ti to be snatched back and then carry out my withdrawal, especially at this time of year, i would hate to be the person having to sort out prooving that i forgot to take my £100!

Kathlean · 28/11/2005 17:19

I lost £50 like this last weekend )-:

Tortington · 28/11/2005 17:39

the fella in front of me walked off and left what looked like a wad in the machine so i shouted him back to collect it. the fella at the machine next to it said " your more honest than me luv"

think dh said " we cudda gone on the piss wi' that"

he was a young bloke just had fuckwititis that day.

i almost went off without my cashback from the coop the other day.

piffle · 28/11/2005 17:41

custy you made me splurt my ale out on my keyboard
fuckwititis
perfect, I can see I'll be using that instead of twunt in future or perhaps both together...

jinglinggoblin · 28/11/2005 17:47

have you called the police? i have handed money in to them before. they may also be able to trace the person who took it and ask them for it back

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 28/11/2005 19:05

Piffle where did you get twunt from?

troutpout · 28/11/2005 19:14

Once when i was a skint student...the business man in front of me walked off and left 50 quid wafting up at me.
I chased him around the corner and into a shop...i saw him suddenly turn around (he was a few people ahead) with a look of horror on his face. I got up to him and said 'hi you left this' and his face was absolutely incredulous
made me feel really good
stingy b*stard could have given me a tenner at least for my efforts though!

MrsMiggins · 28/11/2005 19:18

I once withdrew £20 and £120 came out the machine

I thought about it and then went & handed it in...to be told that I had actually hit the wrong key and I HAD withdrawn £120

what an idiot

Twiglett · 28/11/2005 19:37

hand it in to the bank

Blandmum · 28/11/2005 19:40

I would hand it in.

At this point I would like to publicaly thank the person who handed my purse into the counter at M and S in Edinburgh a few years ago. It saved so much hassle and grief!

Mercy · 28/11/2005 19:57

Lonelymum

foundintranslation · 28/11/2005 19:59

i'd deffo hand it in.

QueenEagle · 28/11/2005 20:00

I would deffo hand it in, no question.

dh said he would take it, no question.

We both can't believe each other.

paolosgirl · 28/11/2005 20:02

If it was £100, I'd take it back to the bank. If it was a tenner, I'm not sure if I would be so honest
