Would you go to the cinema on your own?

Yesterday, dh was out from 12:30 until after 8 at an international rugby match his work gave him a ticket for. I was left with the 4 children, so my day was pretty much like any weekday. As compensation, I had the idea of taking ds1 and ds2 to see the new Harry Potter film this pm, leaving dh with the 2 youngest, but the boys have chickened out of seeing the film and I am left without a treat.

I could go on my own. I know dh would babysit all 4. Trouble is, going to the cinema on one's own, and to a child's film at that....well, would you do it?

Yup, I love it. Haven't done it for a while.

Last time I was supposed to go it was to see Pride and Prejudice. It said on the net it started at 6pm but when I got there it had actually started at 5.30pm. I thought I could still go in, was only ten to and there are so many trailers/ads but the charming staff wouldn't let me!

I was gutted.

Yep, always have done, always will do. I find it quite odd that I would take someone to sit in the dark and not speak to them for a couple of hours. I did feel a bit awkward once when I went to see The Blair Witch - I was queing and a group of peopel noticed me and said "Oh my god you are not seeing it on your own are you? You're mad, do you want to sit with us?" ..erm...not thanks
Generally though nobody notices you sat there alone and I don't go when it 's really busy as I have been squashed in between necking couples before which is grim.
Seeing films is my absolute luxury, I go less now, about once a month but I love the escape.

at Blair Witch
Cripes, you are brave

yULeYSEES · 29/11/2005 14:19

agree dingdong, i don't see why you need someone with you to sit with unless going somewhere else with them before or after?

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 29/11/2005 14:23

Nah I thought it was rubbish (Blair Witch) and spent a fair bit of time looking around me giggling at the other terrified faces. The worse one for me was Titanic, right at the end when you see the floating baby, I was gutted and tried not to cry, I had to leave was very about that which is strange as I am quite happy to guffaw loudly when something makes me laugh.

Well, I went on my own ysterday. Bit embarrassed asking for a single ticket, especially as the cashier double checked I only wanted one, but other than that, the experience was fine.

No-one mentioned one drawback though; no-one to discuss the film with afterwards!

moondog · 04/12/2005 10:35

Good on yer lm.
I am hoping my mother will watch the monsters next week so that I can sneak off on my own in the afternoon.
As dh not here, would rather go on my own tbh.

(Was it HP??)

I've been to the cinema on my own. I quite enjoy it. I go semi regularly. I saw Pride and Prejudice alone.

It's wonderful. Popcorn, movie and peace!!!!!!!

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 04/12/2005 10:59

Yes it was HP, Moondog.

I must admit, I would like to do it again, on a regular basis whilst good films last, as I have missed nearly every film that has come out in the last 10 years, and there is no need to really.

Still, I do like to talk about my film experiences afterwards so perhaps it would be better to find a babysitter and go with dh in future.

MarsyChristmas · 04/12/2005 11:00

IBLMTH: you could always come on here and discuss it!

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 04/12/2005 11:04

Marsy, did you miss my long post on the HP fim review?!

MarsyChristmas · 04/12/2005 15:08

Yeah I did. I didn't want to read the review before seeing the film.

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 04/12/2005 15:40

Only posted it today!
