Is the top of the washing machine dented? Two circular indentations??
Can a groaning noise be heard when its on fast spin cycle???
If so...

DH said dont sit on it to get a quick thrill!!!!

A loud drilling sound when its spinning...especially towards the end of the spin cycle would indicate that the bearings have worn out....could mean a new motor if they are really damaged.
DH reckons you should either

  1. get a service man in to check it out and get a costing for replacemet of bearings or motor....anymore than £150 forget it.
  2. use it til it gives up the ghost and then replace it with a new one.

DH loves motors of all sorts...he's currently building a go kart with a washing machine engine as its power source!!!!

superblastofflips · 26/11/2005 19:27

well i only bought it for £40 and i can buy a washing machine for £100 plus an 12 months guarantee so it probably best to wait it to die off

Fab about your DH, had he made anything else more?

He's always building things.
He took the drum out of an old washing machine he picked up from the scrap yard...wanted the spares from it.
He welded a base to the drum and hung it from a tree in our garden...filled it with logs and hey presto a really funky log fire was born.
He is so obsessed about anything that has pistons, carbs or shockies!!!
He built Ds1 a motorbike...when he was 2 years old and ATM he is renovating an old "woody" morris traveller for Ds1 to use when he passes his driving test...DS1 is only 11!!!!

SoupDragon · 26/11/2005 20:10

Our's did this and it was the bearings. If you spin the drum with your hand, you'll hear it making a noise - if all is OK, it shouldn't make a noise at all.

Cost about £15 iirc to have ours replaced - cheaper than a new washing machine but we knew how old ours was (not very!)

Your DH would almost certainly get on with my DP Jayzmummy
