Presents for the teacher..

When I was a teacher I got presents ranging from an embroidered hanky to expensive bottles of plonk, loads of soapy stuff and enough chocs to open my own Thorntons branch - all as a secondary school teacher.
You would think I would have an idea what to buy DD?s class teacher then - but no! He is a young, very trendy bloke in early twenties and a really nice guy, done wonders for them. Chocs and wine are not his thing really, thought about a couple of cans but somehow don?t think it that appropriate..DD wanted to get him either "sparkly Christmas pants" (hmmmm) or a dressing up outfit as he likes Acting...Now, I don?t want to get a reputation or frighten him into thinking I am chatting him up so has anyone any sensible ideas??!!
Sorry..long post for a simple question

Book tokens? Vouchers? Boring, but safe!

Smellies?

Vouchers for HMV?
Theatre tokens?
Get together with other parents and buy a subscription to an appropriate magazine?
Does he wear ties?

Not sure about smellies for this particular bloke..
Book tokens might be good but always shy of giving tokens as the monetary value is so blatant. I wonder about buying him a decent book? Oh, but then, fact, fiction, school resourcy type thing..AAAAAGGGH Just want a safe, no issues kind of pleasant gift. He has helped DD so much and is making such a great teacher in his first year of teaching that I just wanted to think of something a little different without being too wierd/personal?
I might get DD to make something like some biscuits/tree decorations? That way the thought is there without being awkwardly expensive etc Not a skinflint, just remember how I felt when I child brought in a seriously expensive bottle of Champagne - not great when you know they know I was spending hols marking their GCSE coursework..

I like the theatre token thing - he was a Drama student. Still, it is the moeny/token thing again that makes me a little uncomfortable - maybe I should just get over it.
Doesn?t wear ties or would have been perfect solution and reasonable price range.

Socks? You can get some great gimmicky socks at this time of year. Gloves?

How about a dvd of some old classic - like Arsenic and Old Lace? I'm sure a drama student, current or otherwise, would appreciate something like that.
