I just wondered if any mums out there wanted to have good oldfashioned nativity plays, i know i do and im looking forward to seeing my ds in his costume with the other children. Whatever is happening to the world, whats ever happening to good old fashion things?

Old fashioned as opposed to what? DD's play seems to be the "old fashioned" type with shepherds, Mary & Joseph etc.....not really clued up on any other kind of play.

My DD's school has a traditional nativity play. There would be uproar without one!

Last year they did it slightly differently (to include all 120 children in the infants), they set it at Christmas dinner with all the family and then each one told a bit of the Christmas story. It was excellect, very funny in places, some really good characters (grandad!) and brought the story up to date with a moral of how we should all look after each other and not turn anyone away that needs help.

FAB

This year DD has just told me she is Chief Angel! I assume she means Gabriel. Might need to brush up!

My dd1 is Mary for rainbows and an angel at the whole town guides/brownies/rainbows thing and dd2 is going to be Mary at playschool( they didn't expect to have 1 this year as they only have 9 kids but the teacher will be the Inn keeper!)
Their Infant school has 1 but a 'modern version' and majority of kids are choir as there is 200 kids!

Ds is rehearsing for a traditional nativity at his nursery. Whether it will remain traditional given the way he is building his part remains to be seen

And his teacher has show me a photocopy of the sort of costume I am suposed to rustle up, but can you advise me, dear MN-ers: is Joseph father of the baby the same as Joseph in the coat of many colours, and is that what he wore for his long trudge to Bethlehem?

KBearthePolarBear · 25/11/2005 21:10

different Joseph, Blu.

CarolinaMoon · 25/11/2005 21:10

LOL blu, that would liven up the stable a bit - go for it

ladymuck · 25/11/2005 21:15

Did he end up with woodwork classes Blu? I assume you didn't go down the circumcision route .

We seem to have a normalish nativity - though there is mention of a grumpy sheep. I was just a bit taken aback that it will be at 7pm - ds is 4 and that is his bedtime! They are getting out of school at midday that day.

I thought it was a different Joseph! I think his nursery teacher (who is a real Christian, and should surely know her Jason Donovan from her MarysDH)got a bit carried away colouring in the stripes on the black and white photocopy. I will keep it toned down. I think DS'a addition of his Bob The Builder tool belt and Chad Valley Electric Jig-saw (he is taking a method-acting approach to the carpenter role) is distraction enough.

LOL x-posted ladymuck!

Different Joseph, Blu, but the nativity J just needs a sort of stripey tunic and a teatowel head-dress like the shepherds.

(Am vv thankful that my kids' school had a vast supply of nativity costumes! )

My two are doing Jack Frost this year. They seem very happy and are singing their songs very cheerfully. the only problem I have is that I still don't know when it is on, and I am worried that I won't be able to get out of work. I went to a Catholic school run by nuns, and we did all sorts of Christmas plays (including one with Dracula, when I was a Vampiress)

The mind boggles, Nooka. I love a boggling mind
