Creative ideas for publicity?

I'm going to be running a class for mothers and babies in Jan 2006. I'm doing it for nothing so that I can build up some experience and get my teeth into something new.

I really want it to be a success and need to get as much interest as I possibly can, so far I have:

Contacted the local health visitor (who wasn't keen to promote me!)
Created lots of flyers/posters that I will put up in due course
Agreed to demo at the library during one of their storytime sessions.
Will get the local paper on board to do a small write up/take photos.

Can anyone inspire me with any other ideas? I think mine are ok but would love to do something a bit more original.

Freebie session at an NCT coffee morning?

GREATauntymandy · 24/11/2005 13:48

what kind of class?

dingdongMEGGYMOOonhigh · 24/11/2005 13:49

Soup D that sounds good!
The class is signing to hearing babies, with a storytime at the end.

sing and sign.
Ask the local toddler groups if you can do their singing session for a couple of weeks and hand out flyers

Perhaps visit the local SENCO nursery. Your child of group is excellent for children with S&L problems.

Fab MaryPop! Yes I will do that.

Also contact the local education authority and hospital for the same reason. Have you advertised at the library.

Yes, library is sorted.

any other ideas?

Just done the ad campaign for my choirs next concert - poster placement is critical!
Try and get places where people are bored and will read stuff, not where they'll whizz past; especially hospital & doctors' waiting rooms, village and church halls (etc) where playgroups meet, newsagents' windows (esp where people wait for buses nearby), bus stops themselves if you can, coffee areas in hospitals, leisure centres, soft play places etc
I guess you've got a website - if not, might be worth doing, even if it's only got the same contact details as the posters on.

Thanks MB - Great tips there.

Does your local paper have a section for events every week? Might be worth getting in that. Also, get them to write about it 1/2 weeks before it all starts and then do the photo of the first session. Most local papers love things like that. Don't forget about local radio.

You could also advertise on netmums.

Sounds great- hope it goes well.

Thanks PP, radio!!

Do a press release to the local paper and ask if they want to do a little piece on you with some pics. They love this sort of thing.

Have that covered Skribble, thanks.
