This year it's on 3-4 December. We will have to travel for about 90 minutes to get there. My children are 10 and 7, would anyone recommend it for a great day out?

Bumping this for you - I'd like to know too!

Caligyulea · 24/11/2005 10:39

Hmmm.

Not sure about a great day out, but perhaps familiarity breeds contempt.

It's quite nice. Lots of people wandering around in Dickensian costumes. Plus carols, which is really nice. Stalls with mulled wine, best sweet shop ever in Rochester High Street.

And if you don't know Rochester, it is quite a nice little place, but the festival is always extremely croweded. It is nice to wander around the cobbled streets, castle, cathedral etc., and there's a park quite near where the children could play if they get bored.

But I'd probably only go if the weather is nice. Too much outdoor and not enough shelter from whaat I remember.

Thank you!

So should we stay in, put our feet up and watch the box then? Maybe walk to the pub and have a bit of lunch. OK, you've twisted my arm.

Where is Rochester? Kent somewhere?

Caligyulea · 24/11/2005 11:28

In the back of beyond NQC!

(Deepest darkest Medway - the scariest part of Kent)

NotQuiteCockney · 24/11/2005 11:31

Is that near Grain? We went there by accident once.

Oh, thinking about it, we have birthday parties to attend, both days of that weekend, anyway.

My in-laws live just up the road from there -Have not been to the festival but have wandered through Rochester - thought it was a lovely high street area - where I assume the festival will take place.

I live in the next town. I haven't been to that particualr festival but if you are into all things Dicken's then it is probably worth a look. As Caligyulea said, it will be crowded and will be misserable if it's wet.

we're going to this!
I booked me and dd a coach trip for the Sunday thought it would be good mummy daughter bonding time.

So Caligyulea, where do you recommend if cold and wet and miserable (any child friendly pubs? !!)
