I've never used one of these particular Vax machines, but have used a couple of Bissell ones (a liitle more expensive than this one though). They don't do the job as well as a pro would but they are certainly a handy thing to have with small kids !

NomDePlume · 23/11/2005 15:24

the bissell ones i've used are like the 2nd link.

munz · 23/11/2005 15:36

i've got the red bissell - don't touch it wiht a barge pole - within 6 months it stopped working I rang the company and cos I didn't fill in the form thingy for 2 years warrente, or keep my recipet they won't look at it they're more trouble than worth, cost £200 as well.

go to safeway and get the rug thingy from there - i've used that and was excellent it was £15 rent over night and £10 for the solution.

NomDePlume · 23/11/2005 18:34

they have the rug doctor thingy at homebase too.

munz.. when did you have problems? if a product is faulty then the retailer has to do something by law!

you don't need a receipt, and all new products should have a 12 month guarantee anyway.

you should go to the retailer rather than the company as they are responsible

I have a Bissell, the one that heats the water, have had it for nearly a year and I think it is fab, it lives in the garage and comes out whenever it is needed and once every month or so to do the hall and living room carpet.
It gets rid of stains, smells and lifts the pile...fab!
The only downside is that the bissell shampoo is a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny to have an instant carpet cleaner on hand all the time (espec now dd, 13m, has got to the "I'm feeding myself" stage )

Gobbledigook · 23/11/2005 19:20

I wouldnt' bothere - we just get ours professionally done about every 6 months - they come up like new.

Frostythesurfmum · 23/11/2005 19:32

I've been thinking about getting one, but we recently hired a carpet cleaner from Focus and did it ourselves. It costs about £20 and you get it for 24 hours. The carpets came up fantastically well, so I'm not bothering buying one I shall just rent every 6 months and will share it next time with my mum as there's time to get both houses done.

st - I brough it in 2003 dec for a xmas pressie, by the june it stopped working, neither argos/bissell wanted to know, it has a standard 2 yr manufacturs warrentee which they said was void as I didn't send my form thingy back. got a friends DH (is a tech) to look at it - he cleaned it all up and still wouldn't work properly - the water jets are the problem. he recons it's got a 9v battery in it a few wires and the rest is plastic packaging - ie cheap parts expensive item.

bissell, had previously said to me they'd pick it up but if I couldn't prove when I brought it it would cost me £60 just for them to look at it. (it's stayed in the cupboard since then )

I used to have one a few years ago, bloody hard work. Just ring the man!
