Thermal Window Film - anyone used it?

Anyone used window film for single glazed windows? My MIL has just sent us some as we have draughty cold aluminium single glazed windows (bays as well - its freezing in the cold!) I wondered if anyone had used it and what kind of success if any you had had.

Am busy trying to make the house draught free as it huge and difficult to heat. Every little helps at the moment!

Have you tried to put that stuff down the sides of your doors. That really helped us. Have you also tried your local council for free cavity wall and loft insulation at very reasonable rates. They can also offer free lightbulbs(energy eff) and water tank heaters.

Hi Jelly,

Yes we've done all that. It has helped a lot we've been advised this stuff (window film) is good just wondering if anyone else has experience of it.

No, but when I lived in Poland we stuck cling film (precious clingfilm bought in Germany - couldn't get it in Poland then!) to the window with soap (XP's bright idea) to cut out the draught, and it did help a bit!

Hi, yes we have used it. Was very good, but had to make a wooden frame (just 1cm bits of strip wood) on metal window frames to give enough gap to be effective. And make sure your windows are super clean to start with, as otherwise you'll spend the winter staring at that splodge! Much cheaper than replacing the windows and you can throw it out in spring Good luck
