Nuisance Phone Calls - what should I do?

I'm writing this on behalf of my parents, who are experiencing nuisance phone calls from someone. It started with someone only calling during the week, who would call and then put the phone down when my parents answered. It gradually increased to several times a day. My parents then got an answer phone to screen the calls. The caller now leaves loud noises as messages.

My parents don't know whether to report this to the police as they fear it may get worse or the person may do other things, or leave it in the hope that the nusiance caller will get fed up. Has anyone had experience of this, or any words of advice would be appreciated

Report it to BT at least. They do take it seriously and would surely be able to trace the call.

I'd also report to police.

firefox report it and get the "choose to refuse" option from a bt landline

Firefox - have they tried 1471? If the caller has registered with BT for their number to be withheld when someone dials 1471, your parents can ask BT to bar all anonymous calls.

If the caller hasn't arranged to have their number withheld, when your parents have found out the phone number using 1471 I'd report it to BT.

For the future, have they registered with the
Telephone Preference Service? . It is a way of stopping telemarketing calls, which can include "dropped" calls if the caller is using automatic dialing software, that hangs up if they don't have an operator available to speak when the call is answered.

isnt there anumber that u can press after a nusiance call that logs it as a nusiance call to BT regardless of whether number is with held you YOU or not, not withheld to BT

sure i something about that years ago.

If a number keeps appearing then BT can do soemthing about it

im SURE i heard that AGES ago.... maybe worth phoning BT and seeing what they have to say.

They have tried 1471, and the caller has withheld their number. It would seem the calls are made from an office as the calls only take place during working hours. I don't think it is an automated calling system as the messages that are left on the answerphone are loud noises such as a whistle blowing or raspberry noises. My dad has reported it to BT, but as my parents are with oneTel there is nothing BT can really do unless my parents switch
