would like to help me translate the latin from this

There is no rose of such vertu
As is the rose that bore Jesu.
Alleluia, alleluia.

For in this rose conteinèd was
Heaven and earth in litel space.
Res miranda, res miranda.

By that rose we may well see
There be one God in persons three.
Pares forma, pares forma.

The aungels sungen the shepherds to:
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gaudeamus, gaudeamus.

Leave we all this werldly mirth,
And follow we this joyful birth.
Transeamus, transeamus.

Alleluia, res miranda,
Pares forma, gaudeamus,
Transeamus, transeamus, transeamus.

Please

Res miranda - thing of wonder
pares forma (my version has pari forma)- equal
gaudeamus - let us rejoice
transeamus - let us go..

I think. Will check

We sang this one year in our school choir. It is a beautiful piece of music

binkie · 21/11/2005 14:50

res miranda = a thing to be wondered at
pares forma = [in the same form]
gaudeamus = let us rejoice
transeamus = [let us pass over, ie into heaven]

[square brackets = not absolute certainty of translation]

Res miranda = marvellous thing

Pares forma = equal in nature

Gaudeamus = let us rejoice

Transeamus = let us pass over

singing a little Britten are we?

I do love Latin carols. I sing "Gaudient hodie" (which I learned at school) to my two and they seem (sweet tolerant children that they are) to love it.

HRHQoQ · 21/11/2005 15:29

thank everyone - yes we're doing a bit of Britten with my (odd sized) choir - I've got 1 bass, 1 alto and 11 sopranos LOL. So some of the soprano's are singing the lowest parts (as it's for 3 trebles really - not alto at all).

Hausfrau - I've been looking in my books - and am completely stumped on that one.
