What do you think of my wedding plan?

DP and I are getting married in March, we have both been married before. Mentioned to best friend and sister that I was making plans and they both gave very muted responses, other family don't seem too interested either. So, instead of spending our hard earned cash on the sort of wedding they would expect, ie civil wedding at hotel and reception (worked it out at about £2500) what do you think to this.

Send wedding invitations to the children, get married in local registry office with me, dp and children, literally get witnesses off the street, have proper photographer, nice meal after for us and children as our 'reception'. We hope to have a two centre honeymoon, will give children invitations at our 'reception' to first leg of honeymoon, week at Centreparcs, then second week dp and I go away on our own.

Just felt seriously cheesed off at the lack of enthusiasm for our big day (dp and I were childhood sweethearts and should have married twenty two years ago, but that's another story!) Now feel that our day should now be spent soley with the people who matter, our children. What do you think?

We get married in local

somanykiddies, go for it. We're having a v small wedding and I've come to the conclusion that it's about me and dp, not everyone else.

Whizzz · 21/11/2005 19:50

Ours was a bit unconventional too as we had a meal after just for immediate family & then an evening doo for everyone else + friends. It was great !

HRHWWW, what you doing for yours?

With the lack of interest and the last 18 months we have had, it just dawned on me that the most important people in my life are the ones who live with me, love me, frustrate me, torment me and I wouldn't have it any other way! Feel sooooo good that we will be taking the children on honeymoon, well for the first week anyway, rather than feeding the faces of people who feel that they have to be there!

Blimey, HRHWWW, just read your check list on another thread. Sounds like you are having the whole shebang! When's the big day?

We booked our wedding yesterday! So after more than 20 years apart I finally get to marry the love of my life, my soulmate. I'm soooooo emotional!

Aaahhh this is soooooo sweet

So nice to hear something positive - good for you. Wish I could be a witness for you but I'm way too far away

Think your plans are perfect - have a wonderful day

It sounds like a lovley idea. We had a non conventional wedding as we had bee together for years and years. We got married on the sat had dd christened on the sun. After wedding we had a bbq for close family and after christening we had a huge party in our garden. We also had honeymoon, before wedding as it fitted in better. Good luck, Im sure you'll have a lovely day.

Thank you. Witnesses are sorted, registrar suggested that two eldest children could be our witnesses as staff cannot be used. I thought you had to be a certain age to do it but apparently not as long as they have a good understanding of what is actually going on then it's at the registrar's discretion. All the children will be able to sign the register as well.
