yes

swedishmum · 20/11/2005 23:09

Depends who it's for. If dh bought me one I'd hit him round the head with it. Mind you, I love the one we've got...

starlover · 20/11/2005 23:10

it's for my friend... i have no idea what to get her. she does love waffles... but i have a feeling it's one of those novelty things you would use once and it's such a faff that you never use it again!

If you know the person would use it, then no. good in America I imagine, but not many people here eat them, or know how to make them even!

Carmenere · 20/11/2005 23:11

I was thinking of getting one for my 16 yr old dss, so yes I think it is a good present. However I have decided against it as I fear the huge mess that I will inevitably have to clean up.

needarest · 20/11/2005 23:12

I bought one of those pancake maker things once - its rusting away with the sandwich toaster thing

starlover · 20/11/2005 23:16

eidsvold · 21/11/2005 05:44

GREATauntymandy · 21/11/2005 05:55

GREATauntymandy · 21/11/2005 06:01

here

My waffle iron is actually made of iron, and has long handles for placing on top of the stove. Ah,the romance of it all. [bleurghhh emoticon]

Never knew you could buy electric ones! I have led such a sheltered life

Skribble · 21/11/2005 15:39

I have got the old fashioned ones but haven't got a recipes for the waffle mix. Anyone???

Blu · 21/11/2005 15:45

The belgian ready-made waffles for putting in the toaster are quite good...

I wouldn't want an electric one, because they either take up worktop space, or you have to faff around geting them out of the cupboard, and the flex gets tangled round stuff etc etc, and i wouldn't want a 'real' one because the only time i tried to use one in Canada, the batter oozed out all over the cooker, and the iron itself was a pain to wash.

But I WOULD like a cooker-tops sandwich maker - one of those with two iron saucers that get claped together, with a long handle...are they still made?

Skribble · 21/11/2005 15:47

I'll send you mine if it hasn't been sent to the charity shop, ( I think it might have).

Blu · 21/11/2005 15:54

ooooh, would you really, Skribble?

Have you still got it?

Serah · 21/11/2005 16:08

American Waffle Batter:
6oz flour
good pinch salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 eggs seperated
1/2 pint milk
3 tablespoons melted butter

MMix flour salt and baking powder
Beat egg yolks, add milk and shortening
Slowly add flour mixture, beating until smooth
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites
Let stand

My mum gave me one about 10 years ago, and it has been moldering away in a cupboard til recently. Making waffles takes half the time of pancakes and the children prefer them because of the pretty shape. Having said that, it was never worth using when it was just me and dh and the children were too small to eat much. And I wasn't impressed with it as a gift at the time.

starlover · 21/11/2005 19:54

it's the tchibo one i was looking at! bargain!

iwantoneofthose.com sells those sandwich makers Blu!
