Yamaha Music Lessons - how do they compare to piano lessions?

DD (6) has been offered the chance to start Yamaha keyboard lessons. We had a taster session and I was v impressed. DH (old fashioned) is keen on individual piano lessons. Neither of us is musical and we don't have a piano. Does anyone know how tranferable electric keyboard skills are to the piano and has anyone tried Yamaha? DH is a bit of a fogey and I am trying to make my case!!

I don't know how they compare...but ds had a free trial tester lesson last month and i sat in and was really impressed at the teaching standard. He's due to start keyboard lessons with them in Jan as he already has a keyboard and is dying to get going with it.

My dp learned on a yamaha but we have since bought a piano and he can play that so assume its the same The only difference would be the weighted keys

DD3 has yamaha keyboard lessons and loves it, she's been going for nearly two years now and has just brought her a new keyboard.

As a pianist I wouldn't recommend keyboard lessons if your aim is for her to learn to play the piano. The techniques are very different, and I think a child who learned the notes on a keyboard would then really struggle to make the transition successfully to good piano skills. (Much easier the other way of course.)

But if what you/she want is for her to learn to play the keyboard, then yamaha keyboard lessons will be great.

The problem with piano lessions is the fact that we don't have a piano and our house is quite full so where he thinks we are going to put a piano I'm not too sure. I don't want to invest in a piano only to find that after six months she has given up. A keyboard takes up less space and costs a fraction of the price. Ah what to do! They have just started this course and places are limited. No pressure then!

what about a smaller digital piano, then progress to an acoustic piano if he is keen. They are quite cheap on ebay.
